Paladin Prestige Classes

Are there any Prestige classes that let the character continue to gain paladin spells, Lay On Hands, Smite Evil, etc...? All I can find are Knights of the....from DotF that don't seem to grant any Paladin abilities.

You could try Hospitaler, from the same book. It keeps most of the Paladin's abilities, with the notable exception of Smite Evil.

Divine Champion, from the FRCS, is another option, though it doesn't progress your spells.

You could also take a level of Sorceror, and then become a Dragon Disciple :D

Ok, so that sounds like "No." To which Matt says "Ah, that's boolsheet."

I need a Paladin Prestige Class, dammit! I'll have to write one up myself.

Well, if all you want is to gain Paladin abilities, how about you keep taking levels of Paladin? The Hospitaler exists largely as an option to axe the Paladin's Mount in favour of some bonus feats, though you lose out on the Smite Evil as well, so perhaps it isn't quite good enough.

The closest thing to a "get something for nothing" PrC is the Doomguide from Faiths and Pantheons, which lets you carry on being a Cleric (of Kelemvor), and pick up some neat-o abilities on the way. Of course, you do go down to a d6 hit die. (The Doomguide also has some pretty irritating requirements.)

Certain other classes may *seem* to be able to take a certain PrC and get their full advancement plus other bennies, but there's generally something missing. The Bard/Virtuoso is typical - you keep almost everything, but lose your progression in Bardic Knowledge.

Wizard and Sorceror PrCs seem to be the exception. As a rule, the best of them only ask you to give up your familiar. As to how costly that is, well, each to their own, I guess.

If you look at the Paladin's progression, you'll note that it gets no new abilities after Special Mount at 5th level. This is boring.

And if you look at the Sorcerer's progression, he gets no new abilities after level 1. Paladins get spells, and have a LOT of abilities that scale with level (Turn, Smite, mount abilities, etc.). If want NEW abilities, you'll have to sacrifice something, and those scalable abilities are usually the first to go.

The Scarred Lands actually has a good number of Paladin-specific prestige classes. They're a bit setting specific, but shouldn't be overly hard to convert over to another setting.

The Mithril Knight can be found in Mithril: City of the Golem, and is, in my opinion, quite a jiggy prestige class. It increases a number of paladin abilities (though the specifics I don't recall at the moment), as well as gives them a few others (such as a Holy Avenger-esque weapon tied specifically to the Prestige Classes advancement).

The Iron and Gold Knight can be found in the Ghelspad Campaign Setting. The Iron Knights abilities focus on the crafting of weapons, whereas the Gold Knight turns its attentions to a paladins ability to heal.

Lastly, Secrets and Societies introduces the Silver Knight, whose powers deal with/smack around Outsiders.

All are Paladin-specific prestige classes that advance some, if not all, of their abilities. They may be worthwhile for you to look into.

Less Disease, rejoice!

I would be behind this statement 237% if it weren't for one thing: Remove Disease. To me, every time I see that sucker after 10th-level, it feels like a slap in the face.

DM: Here Thargor, more Damage Reduction!
Thargor: Thanks, DM!

DM: Here Merlin, Prismatic Spray!
Merlin: Thanks, DM!

DM: Here Gord, Improved Evasion!
Gord: Thanks, DM!

DM: Here Gawain, uh, another charge of Remove Disease!
Gawain: Ah....uh...thanks. (*sigh*)

Remove Disease. Yeah right.

I think it would have been funnier if you'd said:

DM: Here, Galahad the Chaste, another charge of Remove Disease!

Galahad the Chaste: Thanks, DM!

As I said, boring.

In my own campaign, I'm willing to grant people access to Prestige classes that are basically The Best Of All Possible Worlds. So I'd be willing to ditch, say, remove disease and turning for cool abilities and stuff after 5th level. I mean...5th level! After that...nothing. I want cool stuff!
