Okay, I have been thingking about this and I now think that the way Palpatine was finally killed in ROTJ could have been different. Now before you all get ready to kill me, would it not have been kind of cool if before Vader had gotten his hand cut off he redemmed himself and Luke and him fough Palpatine, Vader would still be fatally wounded in the battle, but I just though this would be interesting alternative.

The whole point of the finale of RotJ was that Luke had to be on the edge of dying before Vader could be redeemed. If Vader had been turned back easily it would have sucked.

I agree.

Yes, sure there could have been a whole fight and such...but that kind of kills the entire theme of the redemption. Until Luke is on the brink of death, Vader doesn't come to the realization of what has to be done. And besides, I think its MUCH more powerful of a moment the way it is with Vader suddenly picking the Emperor up and tossing him away instead of a big fight.

One handed no less... Yeah no complaints about RotJ and the death of the Emperor… Wow! A villain in a Star Wars movie with a cool death! Who’d would have thunk it?

Even more so when you factor RotS into the plot:

Palpatine's machinations were at the very least a contributing factor in Padme's death. Vader was at the point where everyone he had cared about was dead because of Palpatine's plots. By turning on the emperor, he saves his son, instead of having him die too.

Even more so because at first it looks like Vader is crawling to his master's side.

I wouldn't say he's near death at that point, just worn down from the fight, at that point Luke's has beaten him back, and down (literally). Note that once Luke tosses aside his lightsaber Vader recovers fairly quickly, it's not until after he gets zapped that he has real problems.

There is Good In Him

After Watching Episode 3, then going back and watching tyhe opriginal trilogy again, I was in awe. During the scene when he was looking at Luke getting fried, then back at palpatine, and back at luke, all I could think about was inside vader's head he was screaming for Padme, and his lost love. He was proud of what his son had become, and he could see how much luke resembled padme. Very emotional for Vader. It was enough for him to finally shed himself of the dark side. In the end, there was good in him.

Yeah, that force lightning can be some bad stuff. Nevermind the fact that with all the mechanical parts, electrical current must have played havok with his system. Given the right mechanics, they might have been able to stabilize him, but the Death Star was blowing up around them and they didn't exactly have access to a medicaly facility.
