Pessimism might be genetic

I removed the Color and Font tags that were making it difficult to read. I hope it helps, and you don't mind.

"Everyone was good at spotting emotionally relevant words, but those with the genetic variant — 50% of the participants — pulled out the negative words more frequently."

The quote has been linified, it just doesn't show.

Well this sucks. I can already imagine a future where the powers that be makes sure no one has that gene so we are always happy.

I know, right? Eventually people with the gene will be eradicated before they're born. What kind of world will that be? The worst kind possible, that's what kind.

"Optimism: An irrational belief, bordering on the insane, that everything will work out right in the end."
Maybe the reason for pessimism is that scummy people continue to be in charge of the world. Maybe if the people in charge and making decisions would start owning up to the responsibility of making the world better for more than just themselves and their immediate progeny, maybe, just maybe, the world would be a place worth expending some optimism for.
As it is, to quote Kurt Vonegut, "Things are bad, and they are only going to get worse."

Excuse me for not understanding, but what would be the problem with doing away with genetic pessimist problems... as a very depressed person I can tell you I wish I were more optimistic... if they could make sure everyone was, wouldn't it in turn make people happier?

In human society you need people who will be critical and unsatisfied with the established order, morality, technologies, question our current satisfaction and happiness, define the half empty part of the glass, find an aesthetic is what is ugly and dirty. It is one of the ingredients necessary to our betterment.

It is like the "rebellious gene", if it exist. Would you want to get rid of it? Sure, society would be more orderly, but wouldn't we be more vulenrable to dictators and abuse? The US revolution wouldn't have been possible without that gene. If it exist.
