I don’t use FB, but on YouTube and in popup ads in games, I routinely get ads in languages I don’t speak. And I don’t mean intermittently, I mean I’ll just randomly get a run of weeks of non-English ads. Then the run will end, and it’s back to English.

I can sorta understand why I get the Spanish language ones- I live in Texas; my ancestry contains some Puerto Rican & Peruvian which- while not commonly known- may be in some mined data fouling things up.

Yeah, when you live in a city named Pico Rivera that's probably 90% Latinx, its not hard to understand if YT localizes why it may think that's appropriate.

But the Korean & Chinese language stuff?

I don't think I've gotten that, but I seem to recall a couple of Persian or Arabic things. That makes no sense at all.

This doesn't mean everyone who does that is incompetent (any more than it does with medicine or science) but it does tend to mean its easier for the incompetent to get by, so they can make up a big part of people doing that.
