Decades ago my mom used to make the frozen ones sometimes, I think by boiling... In any case, I fully believe the articles that say there have been great advances in breeding them for taste since then, and that the variety of ways they are commonly cooked well helps.

God damn that makes a lot of sense, because I grew up my entire life having brussel sprouts being the butt of every "bad-tasting vegetable" joke and now they're like my favorite thing, but then it's hard to go wrong with that many garlic cloves and that much balsamic vinegar.
