Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I saw a "gold" barbecue sauce in the grocery store today, which I have to imagine is the company's way of sneaking a mustard-based sauce onto people's tables.
My partner comes from South Carolina. They tell me that the main difference between South and North Carolina is that the North uses a vinegar base for their barbecue sauce, while the South uses a mustard base. My partner prefers the vinegar. I've tried and liked them both.

I must not spend. Spending is the wallet killer. Spending is the little-death that brings financial obliteration.

(walks into a pizza shop, clears throat)
"Why are so many people still eating here?! This place has been open since 1974, and there are tons of new pizza places all over the city!"
(nobody notices him)
"There are better options out there, people!!!"
(still ignored)
"You don't have to keep eating the same pizza from the same place! This place is boring!"
(nobody is listening)
"What's so great about this place, anyway?!"
(still ignored)
. . .

I can understand the frustration of trying to start a new pizza shop in a town where everyone is so accustomed to eating a very specific brand of pizza with the same ingredients. But maybe telling people their favorite pizza isn't actually good and they don't really like it as much as the say they do isn't the best approach.
I swear for some people this exact attitude is their security blanket. They fall back on it because they don't know anything else, and it's deeply comforting.

Ah yes, the absolutely singular way in which South Carolina is superior is North Carolina; SC BBQ sauce is far and away the best BBQ sauce.

It's hot here in Indiana too, and not a dry heat.
One of my friends was supposed to be handling the midnight premier of "The Gamers: Dorkness Falls" but got hit with Covid, a couple of weeks back, and he's just gotten to the point of being "just sick" now. He was really bumned out. Then I reminded him that he might be looking at record temps at GenCon. Being a heavier guy, that took a little of the edge off.

I don't see this all that often. What I do see is people sitting in the 1974 pizza shop and either complaining about the food, or bringing a bunch of their own toppings. and then someone asks why they're still in this pizza shop that clearly doesn't meet their needs, when there's another one down the street that seems closer to what they want.

I have met with people, like friends from the UK who were amazed at the heat once one steps out of the convention center. Friends in California have asked if the winters are bad here, and I have to say it's the summer, and they are like "the summer?"

I see both sides.

I see people in the 1974 shop moaning about the fact that they get heartburn and that they have to watch their blood sugar, so the deep dish pepperoni pizza they used to gorge themselves on just isn't as satisfying as it used to be. Then someone comes in and lectures them about how they need to try the new pizza shop that's got a thin crust gluten free barbecue chicken pizza that is soooo much healthier. And while they may be technically correct, that stuff from the new place resembles the classic pizza in the same way La Croix sparkling water resembles flavor (a vague hint that's just enough to remind you of what you're missing).

Somewhere in the world there may be a pizza place that's a compromise between those two options. But this ain't a story about those kind of places. It's a story about the people who aren't happy.
