I think there are also people who go from thread to thread seeking confrontation and then carry that forward into other threads and interactions that should've been relatively benign. Sometimes it's just their problem.

Well, there's always the case of psychological scar tissue, which has a lot of impacts in human relations in general, and certainly within this hobby, too. If you've developed a sore spot about something, the degree of offense needed regarding it to set you off can become quite low. At the other end, you get people who are, bluntly, pretty thoughtless about things about the connotational meaning of certain words and phrases, and/or decide because certain kinds of thing don't bother them, they should bother nobody, and as such come across as jerks without any intention to be so, but then aren't capable of addressing it once they do.
 

My wife has 20+ years of seniority in her healthcare job and I’m a self-employed freelancer. This stuff hurts us but it hurts people we know and love a lot worse. I foresee an uptick of handmade crafts, baking, regifting, and the like this winter holiday.
Honestly, even as I (finally) am climbing up the economic scale, bought presents mean less and less to me all the time. I'd much rather have a jar of someone's homemade pickles or chili or their kickass chocolate chip cookies, etc., than some piece of plastic they got at a big box store, any day of the week.

That was me at 14, but I grew up poor. :LOL:
