If it's, say, a planned--and executed--trilogy, I'll generally treat that as one story. If it's like indefinite series fiction I'll either skip it or just grab whatever new-to-me books I find, and read them as I find them, mixed in with whatever other books I'm reading. If it's a planned trilogy (or other finite series) that's not finished yet, I won't read it.Yeah, I never read a series back to back. I always slide in at least one other book in between them.

The issue with later augments isn't a bug of The Federation, it's a feature. That's what happens when you don't treat people like Petri Dishes that you're willing to burn 10,000 of, to get one 'perfect' result.
