Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Welp, I tried a complete amnesty for my ignore list, it lasted less than 24 hours. #1 was a new name, so there is that. #2 and #3 are old standbys that I had blessedly missed some threads they created (most were then closed by mods when things got heated). I had 20+ on my ignore list (I pared it down 6 months ago) but I am hoping that I don't crawl back up to that number... Greyhawk Gawds above, I am hoping.

My almost-two-year-old has gotten to the point where she doesn't want Daddy to sit in his office chair (I work from home), she wants to sit it in by herself. And push all the buttons. And she's figured out which buttons usually do things and which do not. And she gets mad when Daddy tries to prevent her from pushing all the buttons and doing things and closing out Daddy's workstation and logging out of work.

We got a computer in the 70s, a TRS Model III. And I learned how to use it before I was 10. But she's not even 2 yet, it's amazing how fast the new generation adapts to the technology.
When my son was two I let him hold my phone to watch some little kid youtube video. When I turned back a few minutes he was scrolling through youtube videos looking for ones he wanted to see.

I went for years with no one on my ignore list, but had exactly that problem of over-ignoring when I started using it.

Nowadays I have what I consider my perma-ignore list, which I try to keep as short as possible. And then a temp list for people who are having a bad day, or struggle with one particular topic. It's a nice balance that's worked well so far.

Yeah, that sounds about right. When I was paring down the list 6 month ago there were a good chunk that had messed up so bad they had been removed from ENWorld so removing them from my ignores just made the list more readable. I did a selective unignore of some and now I get to see who gets the Hammer of Thor.

I will try and model my list like yours... a core perma-list and then keep track of temps that get put in time-out for a set period of time. Sounds like a sane plan. It would be awesome if the message board software would allow us to specify the length of ignore (Permeant, 1-day, a week, etc.), but I know that will not happen.

Gotta say that I have never used any forum’s ignore function.

One reason is that sometimes, the people I most want to ignore are the ones I need to pay more attention to.

Another thing is that it has helped me teach myself how to disengage or otherwise regulate my reactions to others…at least online.😉

Well that kinda goes with the job... ;). Fortunately, I am not currently the owner or part of the mod staff of any gaming related social media (my start way back in the day was with yahoo mail lists and mIRC, ending during the COVID era), so I have the privilege of being able to ignore folks.

Also, Its not a matter of not being to hold my cool but recognizing I don't need certain voices in my feed, period. I gain nothing by reading them, ignorance can truly be bliss.

I will not yuck your yum though :sneaky:.
