Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Same. It depends how patently ridiculous and aggressive I find one's posts. I'm fine with simply ending it on "we disagree", but the folks who occupy my ignore list are typically those who never want to simply disagree.
I was thinking more about whether or not it invokes the "I WIN!!!" post from the other as, once I decide that I'm done, I'm pretty good at staying done.

It's especially difficult because many such people, being so wrong, will crow about how it's a win for them when you choose to disengage. Still, it's better for your mental health and stress levels, in the long run.

Yeah. Being primate descendants, we have this thing where this hits our fears of loss of social status, even if the reality is that nobody is going to remember it in a week.

My experience is that the trick is to stop arguing without saying you're stopping arguing. Stop responding.

Yep. Just walking away without announcing it is useful. The thread then carries on, and people are engaged with that, instead of the fact that you aren't arguing any more.

That's where I've got a disadvantage; I set the bar fairly high for getting on my IL, but there's distinctly a space for being an annoying git (at least sometimes) that doesn't reach that, and my ability to just walk away when someone is doing that often depends on my own mood and how they respond to my attempt to do so.

People on subreddits about specific videogames/videogame series, who moan and whinge about the same subjects coming up repeatedly are idiots. That is my contention. Complete numpties. Empty heads. Like, obviously that's going to happen, as long as new people are coming to the game! Being mad about it doesn't help anyone. Just either don't read the thousandth post about how hot Astarion is, or how Karlach is a lovely person, and downvote if you want to feel better. Don't make a whole-ass thread about how it's so awful people keep coming across the same stuff! The same is true for mechanics and so on. If it's an argument (like "X character is a terrible person, here is why!") that keeps happening, by all means learn to quickly summarize the argument or even build a meme to deal with it, but don't act like someone new saying this is being unreasonable and jerk, sheesh.

Just double-checked and I'm at two. One for belligerence and the other for distasteful reactionary virtue signaling. Both too tempting to argue with.
Wooo, I'm up to 20, which I think is my all-time high. Some are there for the same reasons you cite, others for finally getting on my last nerve and ending up there. I've been using it a LOT more recently...

Well that kinda goes with the job... ;). Fortunately, I am not currently the owner or part of the mod staff of any gaming related social media (my start way back in the day was with yahoo mail lists and mIRC, ending during the COVID era), so I have the privilege of being able to ignore folks.

Also, Its not a matter of not being to hold my cool but recognizing I don't need certain voices in my feed, period. I gain nothing by reading them, ignorance can truly be bliss.

I will not yuck your yum though :sneaky:.
Yeah, but I was a regular ENWorlder a long time before I was a mod, and I only mod on one other forum I use. IOW, my duties here have nothing to do with my eschewing of the Ignore list function.
