Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

First off, I want to apologize, I didn't intend to derail our regularly scheduled anti-pineapple propaganda

You can't derail a train that's not on any tracks.

In regards to the Ignore list discussion, and due to a couple of posts I just saw.

The only reason I have not thrown another 6 or so folks on my list, is because its more interesting to see how other people think, than it is to have my own (obviously correct) views reinforced all the time.

It would seem to be a shame to deny ones self the chance at seeing something that can provoke some thought.

I have, on rare occasion, even had my opinion swayed by the comments of others.

That’s why I try to only throw people on ignore when they’re utterly disagreeable. Differing opinions are great, depending on the topic. You openly, knowingly, and repeatedly promote bigots, you’re on the ignore list forever.

But some people just like to argue, some have to have the absolutely last word, some attack anyone who dares disagree with them, some are so bad at writing they’re incomprehensible, some are so bad at reading they can’t comprehend anything, etc. If the point is communication and discussion and you’re either not interested in or incapable of those things, on the ignore list you go.

The old saw about disagreeing without being disagreeable.

My ignore list is thus reserved not for people who like pineapple or hate anchovies (wrong as they are) but those who, at least reading between the lines, tend to agree with the aforementioned institution.
I have at least 2 people on my ignore list that anytime the subject of inclusion or representation comes up, their responses are waaaay too close to "there were fine people on both sides" for my taste.

This, by the way, is one of the great things about BlueSky. You can subscribe to user-curated lists of folks who think like this and just block all of them -- and anyone later added to said lists -- by default. Extremely powerful user moderation tools, so long as you trust the folks moderating the lists. (And if you change your mind about the list-makers, you can undo it all with one click.)
