Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I've been away on travel, so I just saw this.

There are times that we all burn out. Sometimes the place changes, and sometimes we are the ones that have changed.

...and other times, the place changes, and we change with the place. Except we don't like those changes we see in ourselves, and realize that our blood is just getting all angry and no one likes the angry blood. It is a good thing to take a respite from the slings and arrows of outrageous comments.

Anyway, the departure of some commenters here reminds me of what I always say ... "Some cause happiness wherever they go; bards whenever they go." But you, Retreater, are no bard, so I hope that we will see you again. :)
(it was Reynard, not Retreater)

That's BS. You're a white suburban punk, just like me.

Look, I get it. I'm old and grumpy. The world changed, and lots of things I liked about it changed along with it, and not once did anyone ask me for permission. So I understand change, and I understand grumpiness, and obsolescence. But the parts of that thread I'll never understand:
  • The Xth Edition of D&D still exists. You can still buy it, and still play it, and people are still writing material for it. At this very moment, folks on Roll20 and FantasyGrounds are looking for someone to play it with. Yes, even that edition. And that one too.
  • Hating the newer editions won't bring the Xth Edition back to the production line. Cher doesn't work at WotC--they won't turn back time, they won't find a way, they won't take anything back to make you stay. Sure, I understand the desire to punish Hasbro and/or the fans for (insert reason here)--remember I'm old and grumpy--but unless you're a controlling shareholder, Hasbro isn't listening. And those fans are the largest (if not the only) source of content and support for older games.
  • If D&D becomes unprofitable, it would not be a win for anyone. Hasbro will still own the brand, and they will continue to own it even after it stops making them money. They won't sell it, they will shelve it indefinitely until it's profitable again...just like they've done with countless other games and toys that now languish in obscurity, like Ready! Set! Spaghetti! or whatever.
Bah. Kids today, I tell ya.

How Mallory feels about weekends is approximately how I feel about people who insist that their preferences must be the ONETRUEWAY!
