It's possible to set watching threads default to "off" in account Preferences, along with many other types of alerts. I turned off auto-watch a long time ago, and it helps me a lot with "moving on".
Simply shutting off some/all those notifications can make things a bit quieter, and might help some people resist the impulse to engage needlessly.

Adblock Plus and uBlock Origin. It's mostly the latter that does the heavy lifting on Facebook. It shows a counter of how many ads it blocks. On Facebook just now it blocked 7 ads just from loading the page.What are you using? It's Adblock Plus for me.
