That formula was taken from a page talking about HERO martial arts maneuvers. It’s also apparently the formula used by their automatic velocity calculator.

(I’d look it up in my own books, but I’m feeling particularly lazy right now.)

You guys are giving me PTSD flashback to the Classic Traveller starship movement and combat rules. When I first started playing I had not taken a Physics course yet (I was in 7th grade and didn't get that science class until High School). That stuff bent my brain. Don't even get me started on AU calcs to determine if your space ship was far enough out of a gravity well so it could use its Jump drive without a catastrophic failure.

I'd have to dig out one of my own to be absolutely sure, but I've got to say I don't remember ever reading a version of those that didn't just do what I said a few posts back. Unfortunately I don't have a Hero or Champions corebook anywhere easily accessible myself, so...
