Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Funny how the alignment argument still has power to derail a thread. As someone with fairly strong pro-alignment (in D&D) leanings, I have to say I find it CE to derail threads by injecting the this cosmic battle into threads where that was never meant to the be the focus of discussion. I must, admit, however, I may be revealing something about my alignment by posting this here.
I have never had any problem doing alignment right in my campaigns! In my game, there's a powerful alliance of Neutral Good retired adventurers who have formed a power bloc to kill off all of the other alignment groups!

At least, I think I'm doing alignment right...

Went to Shake Shack for the first time in a while tonight (they opened one in my hometown). For comparison's sake, I tried to get the exact counterpart to my regular In-N-Out order, so I got a double Shake Burger with added cherry peppers. (Shake Shake doesn't have grilled onions, so it wasn't an exact 1:1 match.)

It was good, as always, but it wasn't twice as expensive as In-N-Out good.

The burger is grilled, which adds flavor and texture, and the lettuce and peppers were good. The tomato was shockingly bad, given that one can get tomatoes fresh in mid-summer in California (and In-N-Out somehow manages to get decent tomatoes year-round). The bun was fancy, but not necessarily better than In-N-Out's pseudo-brioche bun. The cheese sauce was interesting, but not really an improvement over actual melted cheese.

The fries, obviously, are a big improvement, but my wife got them spicy, which seems to just mean dumping a bunch of finely ground cayenne pepper on them. I thought they were fine, but my wife kept getting pepper sprayed by a cloud of cayenne every time she grabbed a fry.

We didn't get a shake -- we were going to a party after and didn't want to fill up too much -- although I was tempted, given how good I remember the shakes as being.

I think if they knocked the price back by 25%, it'd be a lot more compelling burger. As it is, I'll probably be sticking to In-N-Out, which is almost as good for a lot less money.

(First: I fully realize tastes are personal.)

I’ve heard people sing the praises of Shake Shack recently, but I haven’t tried them yet.

I tried my first In-N-Out burger a few years ago shortly after the first one in D/FW opened to major hype, and haven’t been back. What I had was…OK, and their menu was a bit limited- I didn’t see anything that set it apart from other major burger chains. 🤷🏾‍♂️

So now I’m questioning the Shack recs.

I like a burger now and then, but I've never had a burger that impressed me. I quite liked the burger I had at In-and-Out the one time I went to one in California a few years ago. Shake Shack burgers do nothing for me. I don't like them. Same with all of the more expensive chains: Smash Burger, Two Guys, Culver's, etc. Most of the time I'd be happier with a McDonald's Quarter Pounder. I went a couple times to the highly touted Burger Heaven in Manhattan, when I lived in New York. Didn't do anything for me. My boss would order his hamburgers done rare at Burger Heaven. Seemed inadvisable, but perhaps I should have tried it.

I drive around and see burger places everywhere and new chains continuing to pop up and can't understand the demand. Apparently, I'm not very American in my tastes. I guess its better than the trend of chicken finger places (Raising Canes, Dave's Hot Chicken, etc.) -‑ yuck.

I’m of the opinion that it’s really, really hard to screw up a burger and what separates these places are the fries or onion rings.

For me, we have a chain called BurgerFi that does great fries, and a burger that’s on par with Shake Shack, In and Out, Five Guys, etc.

Same I was told in and out was heaven on Earth too and it’s was just ok.

I don't think I've ever had a burger, from backyard to fast food to fancy, that could possibly live up to the hype of In n Out. In n Out really nails the cost to quality ratio, and I guess is probably my favorite fast food burger, but they are massively overhyped. I was disappointed the first time I tried them too. Once I lowered my expectations from 'this will change your life' to 'this is just ground beef and cheese' I enjoyed them. But their service is top notch. In the 11 years I've been eating there they have never messed up any aspect of an order, no matter how many people ordered or how heavily customized anything was.

Their fries, however, are terrible.

I remember in Fast and Furious Vin Diesel was like you can get a Fat Burger for $2 and we were no way, Fat Burger is $4. Double double is ok at in n out, been a while, use to hit the one in Healdsburg, they usually are too crowded.
