Here in NZ, Guy Fawkes is literally just an excuse to make noise. I doubt most Kiwis even know who Guy Fawkes was. Last night, the fireworks were rather pathetic (especially compared to the Diwali celebrations two weeks ago). Maybe they've gotten too expensive? It's way past time NZ banned personal fireworks anyway, though ...

When I went visited the States last year, I was astounded to find my home state (PA) had unbanned personal fireworks!

My fixed term home loan is due for renewal. The rates are considerably lower, but I'm not sure if I want to stick with 18 months or go with something longer. Interest rates are unlikely to go much lower than they are now, so it's really a question of whether things will remain relatively flat or jump back up. Sigh ...

So, as I've noted before, I am at least 'hippy adjacent'. I take supplements, I believe in, and have used successfully, a lot of natural products for various things and believe that if the science was applied to these things, and not just massive pharma corps, it would be proven that we can make peoples lives better in a natural way.

That said, if you travel in these circles, you come across some really weird people.

To be fair, a goodly chunk of at least the old pharmaceuticals are just refined and precisely measured versions of old folk/herbalist remedies. Their processing efforts make it much easier to get to therapeutic dosages safely while reducing risks of accidental overdoses or interactions with other substances within the unrefined natural remedies.
