Yeah. It’s a real PITA. I can’t remember verbal instructions to save my life. It’s either written down or it might as well not have happened. It’s a working memory issue with the wiring in our brains. However frustrating it is for you, it’s 1000 times more frustrating for us. We have to live with it. You only have to deal with it in passing.

Here’s an article that touches on what’s going on in simple terms. Some of the suggestions are hilariously bad. Routines, for example, are basically a nonstarter for ADHDers.
