THis is one of the few books Wizards has planned I am interested in

Interesting. I'm the exact opposite. I normally pick up all of WoTC's books, but after seeing the preview material for this one, I lost any and all interest in the book.

If you already have the Manual of the Planes, what new does this have to offer? I mean 3.0 vs 3.5 aside, do we really need two planar books?

I've flipped through it in my FLGS, and I really must say that while I was pretty excited about this (and the fact that I could buy it, since I got hired for a nice job and will have some money to spare, for once), I'm pretty sure I'm not going to buy it.

Overall I just found the book relatively blah, especially compared to MotP, which I think it one of the best books WotC has put out. There are a few good ideas in there that I'd probably never use in a planar campaign, as opposed to stuff from MotP. The Planescape stuff is nice, but not nearly enough to make up for the whole book. If I could find it somewhere half off I might pick it up, but otherwise it's a pass from me.

Nope, but I'm an odd duck in D&D (yes, yes, you may chorus in on that, even add to it) ;)

I dislike the concept of The Planes.

Never used 'em, never will.

Sweet Jesus yes. There is no such thing as too much planar material! *giddy grin*

While I may personally feel sad at the attitude of some designers towards the planes, the writers did the best job that I could have hoped for really. It's not Planescape and I shouldn't judge it up to that standard, but it's the best I'm likely to get from WotC unless they have some sort of awakening on the road to Damascus, so to speak. Me getting a loudspeaker, claiming to be God, and shining lights into their eyes doesn't count. But if it would work it'd be tempting. ;)

That said I'm also going to be snapping up 'Beyond Countless Doorways'.

Well, I've flipped through it, and at the time I thought it didn't really have anything that grabbed my attention. The whole "planar touchstone" thing seemed pretty contrived; if you're that hard-up to make your players want to travel, you're doing something wrong. I was getting along just fine with the MotP and my Planescape PDFs, so I wouldn't have shelled out the money for it.

The whole modron business (see
1, 2, 3 )has left me pretty disaffected with the designers, though. Definitely won't be getting it now, even if they did finally get Shemeska's gender right.
