Pork Roll - have you heard of it?

Never heard of it, when I saw the thread I thought you were talking about Steamed Pork Dumplings like at a Dim Sum place. Is it Spam like?

Never tried nor even heard of Liver Pudding, and my mother in law is a Brit so my wife has some weird tastes in food.

No, its definately not spam like. Like an earlier poster said, its kind of like taylor ham, its just not quite there. Although its pre-cooked, you heat it (preferably on your grill, but a frying pan or a griddle works almost as well and is more common for breakfast use) kind of like hot dogs because heating it makes it crisp up a little bit, sweats some grease out, and just makes it generally better. I personally can't imagine a camping trip where I didn't bring pork roll.

I haven't had it in a long time. I'm more of a scrapple man myself. But I don't eat breakfast that often.

Now scrapple for those who have never had it nor heard of it is about as foul as it gets. My mom and grandmom love it breaded and fried extra crispy. Personally, I try to avoid products made from everything that I would not normally eat alone. Its a disgusting mixture of pig ears, snout, toe jam, and a whole plethora of other things best left unsaid.

Those things are far down on the ingredient list. ;)

Mmmmmm...pork roll, fried up on the griddle with some cheese and served on a toasted english muffin - delicious.

(No thank you to the scrapple.)

Thanks for clarifying a little. However, as I had never heard of taylor ham before this thread that comparison is meaningless. Taylor ham must be a regional thing too.

I'm not sure if they're identical, but where I come from taylor ham and canadian bacon (the foodstuff, not the movie) are used pretty interchangably.

Now that I've heard of. Of course, in Canada (where I'm from) it's called back bacon.
