Power Point Recharge

Sir Yvain

First Post
I finally finished the custom class i was designing, and it runs on power points/spell points.

I was wondering in anyone had any ideas about a recharging system. Are there any ways that people can recharge power points. I know the Crusader can recharge maneuvers, but I am drawing a blank on how to do that for Power Points/spell points

Can anyone help?

There may be something you can use in the Unearthed Arcana, thought I believe it covers spell points.

Note that this powers up casters, something that is generally considered to be a bad thing.

My custom class is specific and weird. I just either need to grant more Power Points so he won't just run out like crazy.

At 20th level he gets 116 Power Points, but his power spells cost 10-12 points with each use

116 seems like a lot but it runs out pretty quick. especially for an epic level battle.

I was think that he can recharge his power points by resting for an hour or something like that

I am assuming you want to have this class be able to use and recharge its abilities throughout the day, instead of recharging it once per day as is the case for the standard spellcasting/psionic method.

You need to decide whether you want the class to need to rest to recharge or not, and whether the standard 'grace period' (for lack of a better term) applies: normal spellcasters can't recharge/regain spells they used in the 8 hours previous to regaining their spells.

To balance recharging against level, I propose regaining points scaling with level. For example, 5 point per level per hour (either resting or not resting, depending on your decision) would let him regain 100 points at lvl 20.
Note that you will soon run out of people wanting to play wizards or sorcerers (or even psions) with this class around, and you might need to tune down this class to keep it balanced or increase the power of the other classes somehow. Make sure you announce this before introducing the class: You will NOT have it balanced the first go, so you WILL need to tweek it later on in the campaign to keep things balanced. This is not a problem (IMO) as long as the players involved are aware of this!
