Price an item that knows when you drop...

I just think you need to be very cautious about non-charged healing items, because they can have a serious impact on the game.

It takes a lot of the edge away if you can always count on that bit of healing when you want it, and it makes it feel more like a computer RPG.

As I said, this is just an opinion.

That may be, but it's still a very valid one. A paladin in one of my games has a use-activated (still standard action) Heal magic item. While it isn't anything I can't handle, I'll admit that it can be quite troublesome. :)

But it's only once a day. You cannot always count on it, and it isn't always going to be there when you want it. In fact, I would guess that commonly you will go down, go back up from this item, and then get knocked right back down again in the same combat (and the item is dead for 24 hours). Cautious, sure, but I think you are being overly cautious.

Additionally, one use per day is almost like a charged item, since a charged item would work 50 days at once a day. And really, how many days go by when you need revival every day, without additional revival that day? Damn few I think. It would take forever for a charged item that functions like this to run out as well.
 

A few points:

1) It doesn't matter what order powers/spells are added to an item. The highest one is normal price and the additional ones are doubled.

2) Ring of regeneration completely heals someone from 0 to full in a number of hours equal to their average hp per level. Lvl 10 wizard with 50 hp is completely healed in 5 hrs since the power of the ring increases with character level.

3) Its not that much more expensive to change it to cure moderate wounds. For twice the price you get 2d8+3 healed. If you figure the contingent component is the most expensive, which most people do then it is only slightly more expensive. Make a spell called lesser contingency as a 3rd level spell that allows a 1st or 2nd level spell to be reserved. I'd price it around 12k.

Ring of nine lives is definitely worth it to not lose 9 character levels from dying 9 times. It is surely standard equipment for all epic characters. I can't imagine everyone not having an extra one as a spare for those tough battles.
