Publishers that dislike d20 . . .

I've heard that Mongoose (at least the upper management) would be far more interested in doing miniature wargames, but do d20 because it's profitable.

And you would have heard wrong. We play d20 more than any other system, RPG or miniatures. . .

I can't stand baseline d20 and only play it if I REALLY like the background for it and because I don't have the time these days to do wholesale conversions.

But I write for d20, for a variety of reasons.

1 - I freelance - a lot of the work out there is (still) for d20.
2 - I sometimes have good ideas that I want to reach as wide an audience as possible. If the ideas are system independent then d20ing them means they'll reach a wider audience.
3 - I enjoy tinkering with systems and write things that I think would help or improve my experience of d20.
4 - Reasons of irony (Bloodsucker).

Not liking something and wanting to fix it or cushion the badness of it can be a good motivation.

I think SJG's only foray into d20 was only meant as a joke, anyway.

I worked on those books and can assure you that for the most part those of us involved in the process don't hate d20. (I can't speak for everyone, especially that nasty man John Kovalic. He's just so mean sometimes. :) )While the books are certainly written for laughs I wasn't doing it because I dislike d20.

That said, I am much like you Phil. Few system rouse hate in me. I like Palladium so how twisted am I. :)

I don't care what people say, I think Rifts is fun. So I'm there with you, man. :)

Yeah, and it clearly was just a rip off of [insert your favorite game here]. Oh, did I say rip off, sorry, I meant clever derivative...

i'd say pale imitation if you don't mind me correcting you.

Well, are there any publishers thought that have actually come out and said they don't like d20 but still publisher it? I can't recall any off the top of my head, although Chaosium probably comes close.

One of my players is convinced that line is while funny, perfectly balanced and meant to be used with all other d20 games.
