D&D (2024) Quotes from the Monster Manual

I somehow missed in my first read-through that it's  the blob of annihilation, singular, like the tarrasque. All this talk about that flavour quote made me realize that!

Also, "The Blob lobs a slimy glob" is an EXCELLENT sentence.
If it were a CR 30 (or close) like the tarrasque, it would be amusing to throw them against each other just to watch the chaos ensue. From a safe distance. A very distant, safe distance.

Even at its listed strength, the blob could probably still do some significant damage against the tarrasque.

To be fair I expect elevated raunch in a Rick and Morty tie-in. It's a bit surprising for it to be in one of the core rulebooks but that's hardly the only thing in a monster manual that parents might not want their kids seeing.

I note that the first occurrence of that particular swear word in a D&D publication dates all the way back to October 1977, where it appears on page 21 of The Dragon #10. It is used again in The Dragon #25 (1979) and twice in Dragon #100 (1985). In the 5th Edition era, the digital Dragon+ magazine seemed to have few issues with profanity. Issue #8 uses a "worse" swear word seven times in a single article, although in quoted speech.

Edit: I'm now tempted to write a short history of profanity in D&D article, but don't want to butt heads with ENWorld's profanity filters

Puritans!

At the beginning of this thread I wasn't sure how bad the word was, so I wasn't sure how to react. I thought it may be 'naughty word', or 'naughty word', or maybe even 'naughty word' (that one would be really bad). I wasn't really expecting it to be 'naughty word' or 'naughty word'. I mean, nobody would write that where people could read it.

But now I understand that the word is most likely ''naughty word'. And that's not bad.

It's a neo-puritanical age.

Like the marilith beheading a dude on page 204, for example!
