Hmm, well over here at Mexico "race" is not a very common term.

Aside from some indigenous minorities pretty much everyone is a Mestizo, which is actually a pretty broad term. Mestizos are a huge mix of every race that has stepped this land: Native-Americans, Spaniards, French, Africans, Gringos, etc. As a result, the appearance of a Mestizo varies from region and social-economic status.

That been said, I would have to say everyone I've gamed with are Mestizos (just like me) except for a few cases:

One of my friends' family are Jews who came here from Europe duirng WWII.

There is this other guy folks come form Korea.

And one of my best friends is an adopted Caucasian gringo.

EDIT: You game with stangers?

It is a fairly common thing to do at conventions, and some people do it at gaming clubs and FLGS games days.

In fact, I met most of my current best friends by gaming with them as strangers.

I know I am one of them (Asian female). I'm just curious to see how many others there are out there.

I have _met_ (but not gamed with) one black woman gamer. Beyond that, you're the second "minority" woman gamer of which I'm aware (I'll take your word that you are as you say). :)

*says it loud* I'm black and I'm proud!

And also very proud to say I don't fit the uneducated baby factory stereotype I see so often on TV either.

I've gamed in groups that were quite large and have been the only non-white in sight. I've met a handful of other African American gamers, but none of them stayed with the group for very long. This had, I think, more to do with the nature of the gaming envrironment rather than ethnicity; we played in a store where basically anyone who wanted too could play. There was often a very large group and many people came and went.

The number of minority gamers I've gamed with, even just the black ones, is more than double the number of female gamers. I've never even met a minority female gamer (that I know of). The closest thing I've come is my sister, who had an old 2ed PHB and DMG when she was in highschool. Don't know if she ever played or not though...

Interestingly, when I first got into D&D,it was an all-black group. When I was about 10 years old, my brother, myself, and a couple of friends played afew sessions of Cyberpunk. Eventually, we bought a bunch of 2E D&D books (some of which I still have) and many weeks were spent trying to outdo each other with the coolest PC, but I don't think we ever got around to playing the game.

Unfortunate -- we need more gamer babies! ;)

PS: I think most of my players are Human... and Humans are fairly common around here... hmm, better pick that last option just in case.

Interesting poll, and it got me thinking.

In fifteen years of gaming, in various cities in northern and souther california, I have only played once with a member of another ethnic group. I have never played with a female gamer.

Wierd.

Now none of the above info is by choice, it just seems that white male caucasians are the norm for gamers, at least in my area.

Here is a question. i have never been to a con before, so to those of you who have, what kind of racial (and gender) diversity did you see there?

Dirge

My game is odd. I live in the bay area/sacramento part of california (yes they arent the same, but i live in san jose and school in ucdavis), and my games are incredibly diverse. I'm indian, my girlfriend is white, and the other players in my game are whites and asians, and one half indian/white guy.

Previous campaigns i ran had equally diverse players. One notable campaign had 3 women, 3 asians, a half indian/peruvian, and the token white guy.

Surprisingly enough, white people tend to be little over the majority in my gaming club, but the groups are pretty solidly diversified.

And for what its worth, another indian introduced me to the game 11 years ago, in massachusetts, where we were such a minority that we werent even counted =)

My group is composed of all white guys except one chinese guy (my brother-in-law) and one chinese woman (my lovely bride).

So there's another minority woman for ya. And she not just a player, she's an author!

:D

Yeah I'm one of two Polynesian gamers I know.

Most others I have gamed with a white and one half-chinese half-european.

and now being in a small rural town two hours from the nearest FLGS where half the population (even those who were extras in the movie) call Orcs 'those things on the Peter Jackson movie' - its really hard to find good game company:(
