Ranger Multiclass and Levels of Animal Companion

Hi everyone,

My friend had started playing a Ranger. As he's been leveling up, I've been taking care of the paperwork and added his Ranger to PCGen with all of the custom equipment and such. Recently, at lvl 7, he decided to multiclass into Order of the bow (OotB).

Well now, he's Ranger 6/OotB 2, effectively a lvl 8 character. My question is this: Does the ranger companion (wolf) still gain levels equivalent to ½ his total level or should the wolf still be only lvl 3 based on Ranger 6?

I asked because PCGen has auto bumped the wolf to lvl 4 and I was wondering if this was a bug or not so I can report any problems. I've tried searching around for some answers but, sadly, I've come up empty handed.

Thanks for the help!

Order of the Bow Initiate does not have any abilities in it that allow advancing an animal companion. Since the animal companion's power is based on effective druid/ranger levels, the character in question would have an animal companion based on only the 6 ranger levels.

Yes, it's probably a bug.

I had a feeling this was the case. It wouldn't make sense for the wolf to gain of the levels that were not associated with Ranger.

Thanks! :)
