Having a big battle with no blood or anything? This was silly as a PG film. And with all the comparissons to LotR, Narnia couldn't stand up to it at all.

I agree with this to some extent, except not necessarily the story, though perhaps its been way too long since I've read the books. Some of the effects were cheesy and looked 'off.' Also, I dislike children being main characters and personally, I liked the Queen the best, though her outfits and crowns coulda been a little neater.

However, I understand that I was not the target audience. I went because I loved the books when I was a kid and wanted to see what the movie was like, not because I truly desired to see the movie. I believe that had I been like 8-10 years younger, I would have LOVED the film.

Almost forgot: the part where the dude with the axe is creeping up one Edward and the older sister shoots him with an arrow was horribly done. A lot of the theatre laughed when they saw that, adults, kids, everyone. It just looked stupid and horribly fake.

A few kids laughed at that when I went to see it.

Its a shame really.

There are plenty of other movies which teach kids that killing people is funny, and up to that point the film had done a pretty good job of showing that war is not a laughing matter (despite their self-imposed constraint of not showing any blood).

However, this is supposed to be the spoiler free thread!

Some publishers rearrange this order to put them in "chronologial order", putting The Magician's Nephew in the beginning, and The Horse and His Boy third. This robs the series of a lot, as many things that are mysteries and secrets in the earlier books are revealed in The Magician's Nephew.

I wouldn't really call what I said much of a spoiler. It happens in like three seconds and could happen at any time during the movie. And it wasn't the killing which was funny, but the horribleness of how it was done which was comical. If killing was funny, they'd be laughing throughout the battle.

Showing blood may be more realistic, but there are plenty of movies that glory in war that are very bloody. There are plenty of powerful black and white movies that teach that war is not a nice clean thing without showing any blood. Good beings were injured and killed in the Chronicles movie, and that is an appropriate way to show children that people suffer in war without being bloody. The director could have made a very bloody movie, but rated PG-13 or R childrens movies full of bloody death tend to do poorly at the box office.

I enjoyed it quite a bit, but it doesn't beat out Serenity or Batman Begins (and probably ties Hitchhiker's Guide) for me.

I can see that. Just worked out differently for me.

Batman and Star Wars I both really enjoyed. But neither really held up to repeat viewings for me. Each new time I saw Star Wars I just kept getting a little more bored. Batman was different, as I enjoyed each new viewing, but it made me realize the movies wasn't as great as my initial reaction said it to be.

Serenity and Hitchiker's were different as well. For both of them I spent several days afterwards marveling at how great they were. And then within a few days, I'd promptly forgotten anything major about the films because none of it really stuck with me. I definately enjoyed them, but there was nothing in them that prompted me to go see them again.

This is a slam-dunk purchase on DVD for me. I hope we get an extended cut but I'm not holding my breath.

There would be very little from the book to put back in. The movie followed it almost exactly, with even a couple of additions like extra scenes with the wolves and the bombing raid in the beginning.

My wife and I loved it. Not a cinematic achievement on the level of LOTR, but it followed the book, did not dilute the "message", and had some great visuals. I give it a 9.

The scene itself isn't why there was a laugh...but the character. Through the entire movie, he'd been built up as a comic relief type, so seeing him go down doesn't have nearly the same effect as anyone else.

I liked it. It was World of Warcraft the movie. It had Tauren, Orcs, some evil Goblins but no undead. The main characters where a Paladin, hunter, fighter and a cleric.
