Real-life Prestige Class undertaken

Yup. With a husband, three kids, a cat, and a hampster even. She's also a pretty wicked MMORPG player, and can disassemble a Unix box blindfolded.

Um, wow. Mythago, I think I love you.

Ok, not really, but that is a pretty interesting mix. Now if you had ended that with "and sure plays a mean pinball" then, well, we would have a different story :D

And don't worry about the lawyer jokes people. I'm a senior software engineer and contrary to popular belief, we are not all irredeemable geeks. I am, and all of my friends in this field are, but that doesnt mean there isnt one somewhere who isnt ;)

Isn't that from Ravenloft?

If not, it should be.

I wonder if they are in the d20 modern meance manual.

Paper golems, however, are in the pdf Gaming Frontiers: Monsters (pimp, pimp) and have a cool mummy-like illustration.

Congratulations Mythago!

My wife just passed the MD bar and will be sworn in in Dec so we are celebrating now as well.

Did you take the summer bar or last year's winter one? I have a friend who took the summer Calif. one and I don't know if he found out about it yet.

Warning, personal blather ahead.

The California Bar *finally* quit toying with me and approved the last of my paperwork. I took my oath yesterday and have now started my first level of the Attorney prestige class!

Just remember, no matter what you are told in the "practice building" coursework, that Prestige Class is permitted to be any alignment. You are not required to become Neutral Evil.

Kinda funny how people bash lawyers and the like until they personally need one, isn't it?

Lawyer: A profession whose primary function appears to be defending people from other members of that profession.

It's like an arms race, but more expensive.

Voadam, I think they find out in two weeks. I took the exam in February.

Now if you had ended that with "and sure plays a mean pinball"
I do, too, not that you can find a darn pinball machine around these days.

Hello,

The PrC does have its combat abilities, too. If the recent TV news is any indicator, Attorneys can dodge bullets like Neo in The Matrix. Well, at least against guys who can't shoot for beans... Dude emptied a full cylinder at the Attorney, who was standing about a foot from the muzzle, dodging for his life with only a tree about a third his width for cover. Attempted murderer, after this crime, stashes the empty weapon in a big bag he's carrying, and strolls off almost nonchalantly. A group of bystanders gang-tackle the dude and wrestle him down after the victim calls for some help and points the guy out. I think it was Court TV that got all this on camera, as it happened outside a courthouse they were covering for some reason or other.

May your own dodging abilities never be put to such a test.

This was even shown on German TV. But in fact, the attorney didn`t dodge that good. He broke down a few seconds/minutes (rounds?) later due to the wounds he sustained. Probably a combination of weak caliber, unprecise aiming and adrenaline that let him walking so long.

Congratulations, Mythago. It takes a lot of work to become a lawyer. You should be proud.

Now, maybe you can finally help me get some of the money Piratecat owes me... He's been skipping out on the alimony payments ever since we separated.

Yeah, um, I guess I was dating myself with that comment. But congrats nonetheless, as it isnt easy to find time to game while working on a career and juggling kids, as I well know myself (50+ hours a week working and 3 small children, and I've only though about selling one of the children to buy miniatures once. Okay, twice.)

Mythago--

just remember that litigation is alternative dispute resolution.

The alternative is a showdown in the street at high noon.

Yeah, you gotta hate lawyers...what've they ever done for society? Only put criminals in jail, keep innocent people out of jail, protect civil liberties, help people recover money from others who have somehow screwed them over...

Oh, and they WROTE THE FREAKING CONSTITUTION...

As a law student (first-year), I got to say that the stigma against lawyers is undeserved. Yes, there are sleazebags out there, particularly frivolous civil suit brandishing plaintiff's attorneys (IMO), but the real role of lawyers is to help someone. They're paid to help you fix a problem that you have, please try to remember that.
