D&D 5E (2014) (Recruiting) Greyhawk Old-School Sandbox-Style Campaign

Oh i thought the first page said you roll per his rules and the link states you can't switch stats. If I can it makes it a little more reasonable hehe! Still thinking a ranger now though. Probabyl half-elf. I"ll work up a first pass background

(Obviously I didn't order stats so that will change character choice).

What's the list of characters now? I normally place spellcasters but with the long rest thing I figured i'd try out a fighter or something I don't normally play but I can help fill a roll as well depending on others. An overall current list might be useful?

Edit: Can I reroll stats? If not i'll have a pretty sucky character. This is lower than standard point buy.

I don't see these stats as unplayable, especially in 5e. The point buy is not a standard minimum I think you ought to weigh characters against in this game. Instead, put yourself in the shoes of a character with these stats and try to think what he would do. He is still above average, better than a commoner (who has all 10s), even if only a little, and determined to be an adventurer. Let's say he is a human with S 15, D 11, Co 14, I 10, W 11, Ch 11. Such a character would make a fine fighter. Or suppose he is an elf with S 9, D 16, Co 10, I 14, W 10, C 10. He could be quite a good rogue. That's just two easy ways I thought of in less than a minute to make these stats work with the most common classes in Greyhawk.

Perhaps this will not be your only character. Perhaps he will retire early due to injury or maybe he will die. Perhaps you will roll up a second character while he is training to level up and like the second character better. But you might find you like this first character and want to keep playing him. All I ask is that you give it a try.

@airwalkrr - I'm finding a lot of my skills overlap between Cleric, Knowledge focus and Acolyte. Would you agree that trading Acolyte's "Insight" for "investigation" would apply, given that I'm a follower of Fharlanghn?

I'm trying to shore up my sheet today and will create it assuming you say "Yes". If not, I can edit it later.

Also, I'm going to have 5 extra languages total (1 half-elf, 2 Knowledge priest, 2 Acolyte). What's your take on learning Exotic languages?

I figure that Draconic and/or Celestial might be on tap (if Draconic is still the 'language of magic' and Celestial being the language of 'angels'). Sylvan might also be up if taught alongside Elven.

There is indeed a lot of skill overlap. You can actually use that to your advantage of you bear in mind the rules for background proficiencies on page 125. "If a character would gain the same proficiency from two different sources, he or she can choose a different proficiency of the same kind (skill or tool) instead."

You select class proficiencies first. So if, for example, you take Insight as a cleric proficiency, then you can choose proficiency in any skill you like in place of Insight on the Acolyte list. If you were to choose both Insight and Religion as cleric proficiencies, then you could pick any two skills you like in place of Acolyte skills.

Feel free to select any language you like. Exotic languages are less likely to come up in game than standard languages; they are merely the languages of the creatures who speak them so there is nothing inherently characteristic of these languages in Greyhawk (Draconic is not the de facto language of magic for example.) There are also the human languages of Ancient Suloise, Baklunish, Flan, and Old Oeridian you might want to consider. (There are other human languages too but they will come into play perhaps less often than exotic languages.) Ancient Suloise and Flan will sometimes come up as a language of arcane magic. Old Oeridian might very well come up as a language of divine magic; it is also considered a kind of "High Common" or noble language. Flan is also strongly associated with nature magic. Baklunish is a language of arcane magic too, but, perhaps more importantly, it is the basis for the Common tongue in Greyhawk. And many individuals speak Baklunish as a first or second language in addition to Common.

Just the rate offered. The more party members gathered, the more the rate goes down.
That is to say, if there's 7 of us (Samara, Davis, Helmut, Mialee, Airon, Kail + the NPC), then the NPC shouldn't be getting 1/5th share

In character, Mialee feels like she pulled one over on everyone if she's being recruited for such a thing. She will feign confidence... she's all too excited.

Out of character, I don't mind at all. The more the better for a first adventure. Especially if we are potentially biting off more than we can chew. Riches if we succeed, death and replacements if we don't. Totally fine by me.
