Rogues are useless!

If they don't have a weapon.

Although there seems to be no mechanic (that I can find) for disarming, it's still annoying that a rogue, even a 30th-level one, is utterly useless without a weapon.

And not only just a weapon, but a specific type of weapon.

I find this to be utterly ridiculous.

The simplest solution that I can see is to allow unarmed strikes to count for melee requirements.

Otherwise there are going to be a lot of situations where the rogue has to sit back and watch everyone else have fun.

Purely imaginary situations that almost never happen, you mean? :)

Rogue imprisoned, stripped of all weapons (including the hidden ones)... and unable to make or obtain a shiv. I think that pretty much covers the only one that might come up in a game I'd expect to run.

Umm... how many rogues do YOU know that don't carry a rapier, a shortsword, a sap, a club, four daggers, and a crossbow? >.>

Butsrsly, if you're not confident with the rogue's unbeweaponed prowess, choose something like warlock or wizard that can hold his or her own naked.

A weapon based character is gimped without weapons?

This comes as a great shock and is even now forcing me to seriously reevaluate my worldview.

;P

Broken bottles, windows and plates (nice sharp ceramic) are RL weapons, ya know!

Arrows, arrowheads, spear heads...large list!
And a sling is easily made and ammunition easy and free (though I still think sling ROCKS should do 1d4+1 damage and -1 hit vs sling bullets which should be the standard for sling ammo).
:)

Yeah but what if they are without a weapon, in a room without any bottles, windows or plates? A rogue is completely useless!!!! I'm going back to 3.5

Well, sometimes the simplest solution is the best.

PHB page 56 said:
Weapon: Many martial powers, as well as several divine powers, can be used only if you’re wielding a weapon. (You can use an unarmed attack as your weapon.)

Right, yes. You're so very knowledgeable. That would be why I've included the rule I posted above into my house-rules. 'cause I'm just trolling.

But in every rogue power it specifically states that a type of weapon is required, whereas in other powers it just states 1[W] or whatever.
