A few minutes ago I was bored enough to create A 1st edition Dnd character and when generating his stats I rolled A triple 6 for Int but I also rolled A triple 1 for his Wis. Naturally I made him A Magic User

So please tell me roughly how smart is A Magic User that has the maximum Int of 18 that also has the minimum Wis of 3?

I prefer to think of ability scores in a more abstract and holistic way. Having 18 Intelligence doesn't make you the smartest sapient alive, and having 3 Wisdom doesn't make you completely incapable of observing your surroundings.

By the rules of 1E, the minimum Wisdom for a magic-user is 5. Since you rolled a 3, your character can only be a thief. I hope you rolled well for Dexterity!
I'd forgotten that Magic Users need a minimum Wis of 5 and his overall stats are Str 8, Con 12, Dex 10, INT 18, Wis 3 and Ch 8. Any other suggestions?

I'd play them as an absent-minded professor. Brilliant, but makes terrible decisions and judgement calls. Perhaps says "Great Scott!" on a regular basis.
