Rules Question

Greets,

I was wondering where could I find some general rules covering the following, or if someone has some easy house rules to implement, those would be helpful too:

-Disease

-Starvation

-Torture

-Madness

Any rules or thought on how to use those rules on a large body of people would be nice too.

My players will most likely be implementing them in a campaign soon (running a prison camp, during war time, in a fantasy world where the concept of human rights is very, very foreign).

Madness

You might also want to check out "Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil" to look at the Madness domain, for clerics. There are some rules for characters who are affected by madness there.

deffinately go with ravenloft for madness.

torture I don't know about cuz I don't have the book of vile darkness and there is nothing about it in any of the other books.

disease and starvation are covered in the dmg

While disease and starvation are in the DMG, it might be difficult to implement them in your new campaign idea (I read it on the other post). Figuring out how they work statistically (how many out of 100 average elves will die of Filth Fever before making enough saves to get better) might not fit the flavor of what you want. Also, I figure you'll be dealing with more fractional starvation than what is in the DMG (an all or nothing situation).

Really, you as a DM need to figure out what you want to happen, the figure out what the players need to do in response, assuming they want to fix it. It goes beyond house rules. I as a DM have yet to find a mass combat system I like, but that does nto prevent me from using mass combats in my campaign. I just have to wing it. It is more difficult with mass combat, because there are systems out there, old and new. As for disease and starvation, I think you'll get a lot of leeway from your players on that.

I won't post till I reread the DMG, again. So, I have better background information on the subject. That way I can ask more intelligent (or dumber) questions.

I guess I am a poor DM, since I can write a twenty page world description in one sitting, but after reading and figurign out five pages of the game system I fall asleep.

Oh well, I'll just use a lot of descriptive text - like the PCs look on as a group of elves fight over a slice of bread.

The reverse is an even worse DM, by any measure. Stick with it, and it will work. Campaign design is all about force of will.

And who cares about the rules! Just as long as you're consistent in not applying them the players won't see the difference !:D
