Scorching Ray Sneak Attacks.

I've got a few questions here!

Let's assume you're meeting the other conditions for sneak attack - target(s) denied dex bonus, within 30', etc.

Do you get multiple sneak attacks from multiple scorching rays? (i.e. 2 rays from an 8th level caster)

Is the extra damage fire damage?

If the targets fire resistance negated the normal 4D6 damage, would the sneak attack still apply?

Thanks!

No.

It's a Volley attack:no multiple sneak attacks.

The sneak attack is only applied once. So in this case the first ray gets ray dmg + SA and all other rays are treated as normal. The SA dmg is treated in the element of the spell. In this case Fire.

I believe that Scorching Ray is treated along the same lines as Manyshot in that only the first ray does damage. The extra damage would then be fire damage, with fire resistance being applied to the total including Sneak Attack.

Ok, strange that I don't agree with everyone else, but as I see it, there is no reason why you WOULDN'T get sneak attack bonus on both rays.

The 2nd ray is a completely seperate attack, is it not? You don't even have to target the same enemy with it. So if you target two enemys, both of whom are sneak-attack-able, does one of them magically get off scot free for some reason?

The strange physical laws of Game Balance prohibit it. In each and every case, the second (and third, and fourth...) rays mysteriously bend, as if they had to pass through a fluid, before striking their targets.

For the same reason that extra dice aren't multiplied on a crit, they're not additive to multiple results from a single attack.

Nope, it's the same attack, you just roll multiple attack rolls and can direct parts of the attack to different targets, but the whole is just one attack.

Along the same lines, if you have Cleave, and you drop an opponent with a Sneak Attack - you don't get Sneak Attack damage on the guy standing next to him, even if he'd be eligible (flatfooted, etc). It's pretty much spelled out that Sneak Attack only applies to one damage roll.

With regards to multiple rays that use one roll to hit multiple targets, I'd disallow multiple Sneak Attacks, since you can really only focus on hitting the vital areas of one target at a time - unless you're an Ettin. I'd let an Ettin make two per round.
