Sell me on the Warlock

Yeah, forgive us from assuming you cared about offense when your OP mentioned balancing offense.
Offense isn't about just DPR in some abstract situation. You do realize that, don't you? It is a really obvious, self-evident point.
Forgive us for not realizing you're one of those types of players, who has to make a character mechanically at odds with their class as a RP crutch.
If I were that kind of player, then I wouldn't ask for the best (except for Eldritch Blast). I'd be happy with a crappy PC who _way_ underperformed compared to everyone else at the table.

Most people would just make a bard, and enjoy its much greater versatility if they didnt care about damage. Not you! You're going to cram that square peg into the round hole, while banging pots and pans to let everyone know what a special snowflake you are!

I don't take it as a forgone conclusion that Warlocks are good only for DPR and only with Eldritch Blast. There have been some good non-Eldritch Blast builds in this thread already.

The reason why EB/AB gets brought up so much is because its a whopping 2 picks which easily cover all your offense needs (of which you implied were somewhat important)
And building it is dead simple and boring.

Again, this has nothing to do with being "more RP than thou." It is about the intellectual challenge of building something effective, but new.

Dark wing, how would you prefer to measure offense?

By watching the players and making sure they all get time for their PCs to shine and don't get overshadowed.

The game is simply too complex to pretend that a character's mechanical effectiveness can be reduced to a meaningful number.

Then we can't help on the offensive front. Your metric is not something that can be estimated without much more info than given in this thread.

You aren't able to, but other people in this thread have.

No sir. It's impossible for anyone to give you what you want because your offensive metric is dependent entirely on what party said warlock is playing in. I would infer that defensive and out of combat metrics are similar. So if they have been helpful it's been out of total luck. Unless you are not being upfront about what you actually want again.

I'll be the judge of what I want and who gives it.

You sure as hell can't be. God, what arrogance!

When people post their best, *I* can decide whether I like it in total or just parts of it. They don't need to post what is best in my game. They can post what is best in their's and I can adapt it.

Have fun. You can be the judge of what you want. Everyone you describe what you want to can be the judge of how well what you claim you wanted lined up with what claim satisfied your want. Have fun though. I won't bother you anymore in your thread since we clearly can't communicate on this topic here.

without EB, the best option would be multiclass. Many options, many many options.

But without multiclass too, I think pact tome shillelagh BB/GFB would be a good option, but you spend many spells in your survability.

This post is dripping with so much irony I'm drowning in it.
