[September] What video games are you playing?

Did it seem like something that could be beaten quickly?

It seemed relatively easy, although I'm told the demo was easier than a good chunk of the game. However, they also made it clear that part of the appeal of the game was it's replayability. You unlock or purchase weapons and spells, and then try going the game with them. Fighting with twin blades is different than using a naginata, for example, and the phoenix magic is different than the dragon.

It just had the feeling of kick-ass fun, and I really enjoyed that. Some days, you just want to smack some demons down.

SC2 continues to rock the hizzy, the Weapon Master mode in particular being awesome. The quest for an arcade stick for the 'cube, though, has only just begun. I've found three models, but I'm not sure if I want to pay more than the cost of the game for one.

I'm already bored of SC2... Then again, I've been playing it for quite a while now :)

Wait a bit, after some time away you'll get back into it. I got sick of playing back in January and I'm playing again. Of course longevity will likely be increase by the ability to play against other people.

And here I was all set to recommend one from MAS Systems, the stick of choice from the members of Shoryuken when I was a member there and what I'll get once I'm able. They're actual arcade sticks, you can get plugs for multiple systems built in or if you get one for the PS2 you can get adaptors for the other systems, (possibly) from them or else where, which would allow you to use a PS2 pad on just about any system (PC, GC, Xbox for sure) and I suspect Sony will keep the same standard so I suspect it will still be usuable on their next system.

Gah. Paying more than I paid for the Gamecube itself is hard to justify, in my mind. And honestly, I'm not sure if I like that controller from Mas, or not. The real problem is that, without actually playing them, it's hard to tell.

I tend to play sitting on the floor, or maybe the couch...but with the kids around, those things look just like a way for someone to get hurt. :) The links are appreciated, though. I've got friends who would consider such a purchase.

Just now getting around to Splinter Cell (I'm a huge Thief series fan and it was recommended to me for that reason)... It's pretty good but short, I'm almost done.

Ya' know, I don't know if it's because I didn't grow up with arcades (We had one, and it closed down when I was like 6 or 7, where I grew up... other than the random Spy Hunter in a grocery store, or Pac Man at pizza hut), or what, but I've always hated arcade controls for fighting games. I've always prefered good old gamepads.

HEATHEN! You have no business playing fighting games!

How much did you pay for your 'cube? Even after shipping it's still less than $150, even if not by much. Of course it would be cheaper if they didn't insist on including analog support.

I get so many fighting games that the PS2 stick would be worth while since there's the possibility to use it with other systems now and in the future.

For you I'd suggest checking import shops like NCS, Video Game Depot, and the like for something. Those two both have a SC2 stick for $60-70. Just keep in mind anything for less than $0-50 is likely to be not so good (i.e. most anything actually sold in the US).

I have a brand new Mac G5, so I've been playing a lot of NWN, WarCraft 3, and UT 2003 on it.

On my game PC, I've been playing LOTS of Asheron's Call 2. If you hated AC2 when it first came out you MUST try it again - they've rebalanced every class and skill, added dozens and dozens of new quests & magic items, and in two weeks they and another landmass, and the all-new Hero system, which is a HUGE new expansion for level 45+ characters. Easily more stuff than in most commercial expansions, and it's free to all AC2 subscribers.

I finished the Tron 2.0 demo last night and I'm hooked. I'm off to buy it at the first opportunity. A warning though - part of the reason I like it may be nostalgia, so I look forward to an unbiased opinion of the game.

RE Tron: Gamespot gave it a 7.1, I believe. Nice graphics, but the gameplay is entirely vanilla (very much "formula" FPS). I played the demo and was unwhelmed [kill mobs of stupid enemies, jumping puzzles (jump on the right moving block or die, quickload, repeat), fetch keys to open doors... where I have heard this before?]. No lightcycles in multiplayer (unless you LAN, IIRC), and the disk arena was buggy in the demo.
