[September] What video games are you playing?

RE Tron: Gamespot gave it a 7.1, I believe. Nice graphics, but the gameplay is entirely vanilla (very much "formula" FPS). I played the demo and was unwhelmed [kill mobs of stupid enemies, jumping puzzles (jump on the right moving block or die, quickload, repeat), fetch keys to open doors... where I have heard this before?]. No lightcycles in multiplayer (unless you LAN, IIRC), and the disk arena was buggy in the demo.

Right now my son and I are in the middle of the Warcraft III expansion set ("Frozen Throne").

Hey, LightPhoenix, is that any different from the original version (we have the PlayStation version)? I'm thinking about getting it for my son, but I don't think he'd play it too much if it's just the exact same game ported to another platform.

I have gotten back into Railroad Tycoon 2 Platnium

On the Xbox KOTOR and Morrowwind

Looking forward to ToEE and Victoria - Empire under the Sun (I am a sucker for the Europa Universalis Engine)

I just got Disgaea.

It's a lot of fun, but it's somewhat weird. I like tactical RPGs, but this almost seems less a tactical RPG than a game for people who like building up characters. You can get 1000s of levels.

There's also some puzzle-game ish aspects. Each map you get rewards based on your "Bonus" meter, which goes up if you use a lot of combo attacks and such. So you can spend a lot of time trying to set up certain attacks for the bonus.

It's also very funny.

This has been a busy month for gaming in my case.

Started with Enemy Territory, a game I've been playing for about a month now and still love.

Then I got Tron 2.0 for my birthday. Beautiful game, great controls, but I'll admit it gets a little shaky when it comes down to gameplay. Still, it's definately worth a buy. With all the annoying mountain-goating you do, quicksave becomes a more useful tool than the disc. Reviewers said the game suffers because the disc can become more reliable of a weapon than all the other nifty stuff you can get. I disagree. I think all the weapons have their place and can be useful and fun without seeming contrived.

Next came Jedi Academy. LOVED IT!! But it's also very easy. I beat it in two days. It also suffers from the Tron syndrome of "Oops, I died, time to quickload." Enemy sabre-weilders can often kill you in a single hit, making battles quite intense (especially the 4-5 man melees with 2 dual-weilding Jedis mixing it up with 3 staff-twirling Sith). But the force powers and the option to go light or dark side make it all worth it. RAWR!

Now I'm back to Splinter Cell. The game has such a wide variety of paths open to you, but a very narrow margin of error. Not that I'm complaining, but it gets a little nerve-wracking after awhile. The AI is also goofy, often missing me when I'm right in front of an enemy's face or failing to hear the victim I'm choking only ten feet away. Again, not that I'm complaining- the game's hard enough as it is. Incredible attention to visual and audio detail as well.

I highly recommend all three games. :D

Do they have multiplayer saber dueling in Jedi Academy? If so, is it good? I loved JK2, especially the online multiplayer saber duels... that is, until they patched it, and made the lightsabers not-so-deadly. If a lot of the kills are (nearly) single hit in multiplayer as you say they are in the single player game, that would really be my cup of tea.
