Shadowrun d20?

Personally, I'd love to see Shadow Run d20, and Steve Kenson would be my pick to do it.

Mutants and Masterminds is already half way there. Being classless and without hit points. A few tweaks here and there and it would work great. Make spells and weapon proficiencies into individual "skills" add rules for drain, remove the damage save, use fortitude to resist damage, and rework what being hurt means, remove defense bonus, but use reflex save as dodge.

The main problem with doing a Shadowrun conversion is all the gear, cyberware, and other tech that would need to be converted.

Personally, I'm all for a steamlined version of shadowrun, but this blurb scares me "Matrix 2.0! An all-new level of wireless “augmented reality” overlays the real world, unleashing hackers to be mobile digital wizards." As long as this means manipulating the machines around them, I'm okay, but if this means using a blackhammer program, while walking though downtown or using a masking program in "real life" I won't play it. My initial thought was "the Matrix" or worse Yugioh (whatever the newest one is).

I actually hope its a good system though, because SR has always been a pain to run. Especially when you're using all the additional books.

Michelle,

Thank you for dropping in on this topic. It's nice to see someone with some first-hand knowledge comment on it, because very often threads with this topic degenerate into rumors, speculation, and general sniping.

Personally, I think it would be loads of fun to make a d20 Shadowrun book. I'm not holding my breath on it, though. As it is, I'm pretty happy with what's coming up for SR4, and I'm looking forward to GenCon.

I'm one of those who would love a well-done Shadowrun d20 conversion, because of my perceived problems with the mechanics. Hopefully, the 4th edition will be smoother and not break my "game-concentration" - I'm hoping for something similar to what World of Darkness did, but I don't know the probabilities behind the scenes well enough to know if that's feasible. While it doesn't help me personally a lot, I can understand Fanpro's reluctance to jump into another version of Shadowrun without a lead who is confident in d20, and having a fanbase with some vocal opponents to a different system.

Michelle,

I understand why FanPro wouldn't want to do an in-house version of Shadowrun d20 (or, worse, replace the existing Shadowrun with a d20 line).

I just don't understand why they couldn't rent the license to another company to produce a Shadowrun d20 core book. I picture it along the lines of what Chaosium did with Call of Cthulu, especially if Wizards were interested. But I'd think either Mongoose or Green Ronin would consider it, especially the former considering their fondness for licenses (and classic gaming lines).

Please keep in mind that FanPro does not own the IP for the Shadowrun line. It licenses the RPG rights from WizKids. To be honest, I'd be very surprised if FanPro had the option to "sublet" the rights to the IP to another company, assuming there were any profit to be had in doing so (which given the current market would be very much in question).

No problem at all. I visit fairly regularly as it is, I just don't post very much unless I can think of something useful to contribute. :) It's early days yet for talking about it in any detail, but I think you'll be pleased with the final product. We've put a lot of work into making some real improvements to the game, and I think that they will be well received.

So what you're really saying is that Shadowrun d20 is a casualty of the megacorporate power struggle between WizKids and WotC over MageKnight and D&D Minis! :D

Woah...

An innocent hybrid sacrificed to megacorporate greed as personified by two cabals of wizards.

Forget Shadowrun d20, this is Shadowrun IRL!

I know there's probably no way that you can answer this but can you maybe give some details on the biggest mechanical changes to SR4?

If not that, can you tell us anything? Please? :D
