Shadowrun d20?

I don't know why is everyone so excited about Shadowrun d20. If someone has either of the shadowrun main books (2e or 3e) and d20 modern and d20 future, and dnd (or the downloaded srds from WoTC) you could create a shadowrun d20 setting in 5 minutes. Why do you always want something to be published? (no offense meant of course)

My understanding, from people who know people, is that Shadowrun sells well enough as it is. I guess FanPro didn't see the need to switch to d20 as it wouldn't boost sales that much.

That's sort of like how Alderac found out that the d20 system didn't bring in that many new players (I'm an exception to this).

What I would have liked to see is a dual-stat book, one that used Shadowrun rules, but gave a d20 variant as well. However, this does take more time and takes space away from books.

There are fan conversions out there, and unfortunately I can't seem to find one on the web anymore. Likewise, between d20 Modern, Urban Arcana, and OGL Cybernet, you can work up a d20 conversion.

I think we're going to start seeing a shift in the RPG industry away from d20 anyway, so it probably is just as well that Shadowrun remained a non-d20 system. *shrugs*

From a sales standpoint Shadowrun is a pimple on D20's butt, financially there would be no gain for Hasbro to spend money on it for no other reason than to deep six it.

Well you could say that about most non-d20 games. But Hasbro would love to have the Shadowrun brand name. If they could take a well-known name in the undustry and repackage into d20, they'd have a winner. FanPro has stuck to their guns and remained true to the hardcore fans. Major props to them for that.

I was assuming that he was hoping somebody had already done a conversion, not necessarilly asking if one had been published.

Or it could be he likes the setting, but hates the rules, and does not want to buy a rulebook that he is only going to use as setting material. I do not much love the Shadowrun system myself.

That is pretty much how I felt about World of Darkness. Love the setting, hate the system.

Shadowrun fans (and authors) are the most rabid anti-d20 gamers I've encountered.

Really? I would have thought Palladium would get that vote. As a member of the shadowrun community I know lots of the fans (and authors) actively participate in d20 games and some of those authors, and other professionals involved with the game, have freelanced on d20 projects or worked for d20 companies. I'm not calling you a liar. Your experience may well be much different than mine.

I personally love Shadowrun 3rd Edition, although I admit it's a rules heavy game (which always makes me chuckle when people talk about wanting a light version of the d20 rules). I like the rule system and the feel of the game. Could it be translated into d20? I'm pretty sure it could, but the publishers have chosen not to do so. Not every game needs to have the same rule system (I like different systems for different games). Don't like the rules as written? Convert it! It shouldn't be hard at all to do with the resources already available.

Shadowrun rocks. I love the game, though I dont get to play it much. I would like to see a D20 version so that I could get my players interested in the game, but I still would not like to see the current incarnation of the game go away.

"Cold day in Heck" seems apt...

I wouldn't mind an OGL version (note, NOT necessarily d20 trademark-licensed) of Shadowrun, because I dislike its resolution mechanics compared to d20, but I'm not losing sleep over its lack of existance. Fanpro, unless something changes, is adamantly against a d20 version, so it's unlikely you'll EVER see a licensed version.

I've done some prelim work on an OGL version of the system myself, but haven't gone back to it in a while, because there's little point in finishing, due to lack of interest in Shadowrun in my group, and due to copyright violations in general.
