Slow vs Haste

First Post
1) Does a Slow spell automaticly cancel a haste on a creature or must the Will save fail?

2) Does a Slow spell suppress a haste (become hasted again once the Slow expires) or cancel it? If it's suppressed, can another haste be activated to allow the creature to be hasted again?

Slow counters and dispels haste but does not otherwise affect magically speeded or slowed creatures.

Haste dispels and counters slow.

There you go.

2) I think it's more just a cancelation type thing. Water and Fire. Like a counter action; when you're slowed, and hasted, you're *normal*, so both spells are null and void.

On a similar topic, could someone with Boots of Speed get rid of a Slow effect by activating the boots for 1 round, then re-activate them and be Hasted as normal? Or does the "act as though Hasted" wording mean that the boots don't actually cast a Haste spell?

Oooh...good question. I would say that activating your boots would suppress slow until one of them expired. Conversely, if your boots are activated and someone slows you, I would say that your boots are supressed until you can activate your boots again, or the slow spell expires.

Haste and Slow don't suppress each other, they cancel.

If someone casts Slow on you, and you activate your Boots of Speed, then one of your rounds of Haste for the day is used up, the Slow is cancelled, and you move as normal.

In the next round, you could activate your boots again, and they would work normally.

If you are already Hasted, and someone casts Slow on you, then your Haste is dispelled, and the Slow spell is gone. They cancel each other out. In your next turn, you can once again use an action to reactivate your boots.

The duration of the Slow is immaterial, 'cos it's been dispelled. Not suppressed.

Note that it only works 'cos the Boots allow non-consecutive rounds.

If it were a Monk's Belt you were using, instead, then I'd say if someone Slows you, the Haste is dispelled, and because the Belt only works for ten consecutive rounds per day, that you can't restore it until the next day.

That's how I'd rule it, anyway.

Although I could see an argument that even though you're activating it several times, the rounds are still consecutive :)
