So why are you at ENWorld?

darjr

I crit!
In reading the thread about who in your group is an ENWorlder I wondered why people are ENWorlders.

I'm one because I like the community, the software, the moderation, the topics.

The topics and community are the big ones for me. D&D from 4e to OD&D gets some coverage here. Yea, more pathfinder/3.5/3.0 and 4e than other editions but the mix is present.

I'm not going to blow smoke and say I like everyone here, etc., but by and large, I find this to be one of the best online communities out there.

I've had good discussions here (and I'm including those in which NOBODY agreed with me), been offered simply awesome advice, and most of all, its one of the most active sites out there.

And in general, this site is fairly polite. Sure, tempers flare and so forth, but on average, I find the discussions to be mostly pretty doggone civil.

I mean, I can find much of what I find here elsewhere, but sometimes on those other boards, you don't get a response for daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyys. And that's on a HOT thread.

In addition, I like the number of people willing to ask questions- n00b and vet alike- about character and campaign design. Its a great way to improve your game, and doggone it, I'm always up to help in either subject. I love the creative process.

I lurked for years in the 3.5 days, and when i felt that the D&D boards were getting over run with 4e nonsense (read over a year before the announcement), and trolling (I tthink it was getting worse, although it might have just been me getting feed up), and having little to no people I enjoyed talking to, I decided to move over here.

I was mostly spliting my time between both, when 4e was anaounced, and as funny as this sounds, enworld had better up to the moment info then the D&D site did. At that point I migrated mostly to hear.

Today I am here becuse I find 'most of the time' this is a nicer place. I can say things, and get opions, or give them, and not feel attacked. I also see most of the edtion wars cooling back down here.

In general the moderation is just light years above any other message board.

A DM offered me a plot hook almost ten years ago, I took a left turn and eventually wound up here. :)

Y'know...

For the life of me, I cannot remember how I found ENWorld at all!

I mean, I'm the only one in my gaming group that posts here, AFAIK.

To quote the Talking Heads "Well, how did I get here?"

Cuz Morrus owes me twenty bucks. And I'm here to occasionally glare at him, and make threatening gestures.

Actually, I got here because Hellhound (remember him?) was writing a book, and I submitted a character class to him. It was similar to a spellthief. He told me to post it here for the editing process, and then submit it to him. I did all that, went through about eight drafts (great process!), and did so. Class never got pubbed, though. Ah, well.

Afterwards, I decided to kick around here, instead of other pages. Mostly because the site I had formerly posted at had much narrower interests in topics, and most of them didn't interest me.

In the short term, and generally: because I have ten minutes to kill, and no one has yet responded to any of the RPGnet threads I'm following.

How I got here: a link from RPGnet or GiantITP. Probably when someone crossposted a really interesting thread to two or all three of those sites, and I wanted more discussion on the topic than just the one forum provided.

EDIT: Oh, no, I remember! You guys had an awesome hoard of 4e preview information, which I found whilst Googling for such!

Was looking for 3.X information on building some sort of shapeshifting class for a F2F game in planning, was encouraged to avoid polymorph because it was complicated, discovered Enworld had living worlds and places to play online, I became an active member pretty quickly and now I lurk everywhere because I can no longer afford my MMO's, so ALL my time is spent here, rather than around half of it. ;)
