Sorcerer in PHB II: Rich Baker says a little

i personally like the line that mentions "same role and same power source" as wizard....not confrimation, i know, but implications that presently they may be leaning in that direction.

Um. If its wild magery in the sense of you pull out random effects that you can't count on and have a chance of blowing up you and your party, I will be unpleased.
I'd be fairly unpleased by random effects or variables as well. Suddenly I am wary, which makes me sad, since I liked the concept of the sorcerer (well, except the draconic bestiality angle) in 3e, but despised the mechanics

Some of the DDM stats have "primal" as a descriptor on things that could be a sorcerer. But nothings been confirmed about sorcerers at all.

They'd need to think of something really substantial to differentiate the wizard and sorcerer if they were the same source and role, much like the how they're differentiating the ranger and rogue which also share the same source and role.

Didn't we have some of this in the Races and Classes book? They said something along the lines that if a sorcerer cast a fireball spell he might be on fire himself for a turn or two scourging his enemies. That sounds enough like wild magic to me

They need another controler, and don't have that many arcane clases...

They need another controller, but it seems likely that by the time PH2 gets out there will be more arcane classes than anything else. PH1 has 4 martial, 2 arcane, and 2 divine, but the only possibly martial that's been talked about is the monk, and nothing with a good shot of being classified as divine has come up. Whereas there are at least 3 more arcane classes coming down the line in the bard, swordmage, and sorcerer.

What else was there to the concept? Seems to me that the socerer was a 90% mechanical distinction from the wizard in 3.x. Do you mean in supplemental materials, when they put the "maybe you have some other kind of bloodline" spin on things?

I always thought the sorceror was bland, bland, bland, and I switched to using warlocks a few years ago. I'd be happy if they'd come up with some distinguishing mechanic.
