Is there a way to view it without it showing up on Internet Explorer? I thought I would be viewing it offline, but the pages still show up in my History on IE - I guess cuz they're html files... (bad if the boss checks ;) )

You could change your settings to clear out the history more frequently, use an alternate browser when you check out an html srd, or pick up an SRD in PDF format.

As one of the (more numerous than you think) Mac users on these boards, you have my thanks. A quick, clean download, and Stuffit Expander opened it right quick.

Yeah, I dived right into looking for 7-zip for the Mac, until I read further, and realised I didn't need it.

Thanks!

Use another browser? Duh. Thanks for that "tip".

I'm at work, so for obvious reasons I can't install Firefox and cleaning out my history folder does jack since it will still show up at IT's end (I have no administrator privileges). If only it were that simple.

But running a pocket Firefox from my USB key might just solve all my problems...

I was running Firefox and Trillian (multiple IM replacement) from my USB key tonight at work. I also have downloaded the S/S SRD there as well. It all worked fine (as far as I could tell).

Mind you, I don't need to do this, as my company has a much lighter-handed IT policy, but I wanted to make sure it all works before I took my USB key to GenCon. :)

Well, it's definitely possible to intercept your computer's web connection in the company network and see what you are doing. Depending on the setup, they can even read what you type, or watch your desktop from another computer. I don't think there is much you can do, if they use special software to monitor your computer use, except using a completely external solution (laptop, PDA, etc with offline SRD, maybe wireless LAN (not from the company, of course) could work, too).

Around here it's illegal to monitor an employee that way, dunno about anywhere else. ;)

The easiest is probably to simply ask your employer, if you are allowed to do so, as long as it does not interfere with your work. And if not allowed, just don't do it?

They don't monitor individuals' computers, nor do they track keystrokes. I'm more interested in a general printout of what websites you've been to as my last job had an IT department where they could do that. I don't think "Monster - Demon", "Monster - Dragon", etc. (from the SRD) would look too good!

I've read parts of the 7-zip source code and I trust it. And then I'm the kind of person who's paranoid enough to actually read the source code of a program before installing it. (If the source code is not available I install it on my test computer first, with packet sniffers and api monitors turned on).

I have never had a single virus, spyware or BSOD on this computer, and the Win 2000 installation is almost 3 years old.
