[SPOILERS]Angel 5.1 Discussion

First Post
I like the new direction so far. The first episode was a bit messy, with all the new characters and the new locations, but fun. I like Eve and I like Gunn's Lawyer-fu :)

Not so happy with Harmony yet, but we'll see how it progresses. Can't wait to find out more about Spike !

What are your thoughts ?

I liked it. I especially like the fight at the end. But definately should be interesting, especially with Spike's reappearance. (Which btw I loved in the promo for next week's show. That one line "I'm Angel of Wolfram and Hart" and Spike then saying "I'm his date!" priceless! :)

That was wonderful. The new direction looks to be interesting. Harmoney was... well Harmony and you either love her or hate her. ;)

Definetly have to watch this one again. :)

Disappointed overall, they showed more Spike in the previews than they did in the actual episode. What a cop out. Harmony is so-so, obvious comedic relief, so we'll have to see.
Eve could be better, but was good enough.
Gunn's move from Muscle to Lawyer was lacking for me.
The Angel fight was a bit out of place I think.

So, I think it's a good episode, if it had been in the middle of the season, but as a premiere it was lacking.

Still, we'll see. Didn't ruin the season or anything for me, just a bit disappointed.

There were a lot of good quotes in the show, but I think the one that takes the cake is right in the beginning - "How sweet! And a bit condecending...." Ah how I love thee Wesley.

Harmony was annoying, and to be perfectly honest whenever I saw Eve I kept thinking it was Harmony. The two are just too similar. Except that Eve was creepy and cheery and cool at the same time, Harmony was just annoying. And Eve was definitely cuter.

I'm very amused at what they used Gunn for - I was SO not expecting that. The throwaway line about the "least potential" seems to be a sentiment echoed by many people about Gunn. I must admit though that the whole scene with Gunn was incredibly cool, even though I did think of him as a bit of a traitor. I think it's the coolest court scene I've ever watched, to be perfectly honest. I think it's gonna work out really well.

I'm STILL worried about Spike being added to the cast. Joss seems to think he's the best thing since sliced bread, and from what few episodes of Buffy I saw he was strong on that show. I'm just very wary of the imbalance he's going to bring to Angel. While I'm sure next week will be a Spike-centric show , I hope he's not going to start dominating things like he tended to do in Buffy, according to my gf.

I would rather have seen them keep Lilah, who's a strong female lead we already know and care about. We already have Wesley, Gunn, Angel, and Lorne on the male side... we had Cordy and Fred, and Lilah to a certain extent. Now we have five guys versus one woman (Fred), one recurring character (Harmony), and possibly Eve, if she's a returning character. Makes me wary they can keep the balance straight.

Voc,

Well when go from down and out grinding fighters to being apart of a corp, things change. I'm sure the show reflected that. Which is why I think some people might respond negatively. I mean it's just a reflection of the change which is HUGE. So now we just have to see how it turns out. I'm still pretty stoked by Season 5. There's a lot of possibilities out there for it. Some of which I'm formulating by not only what Angel said but the appearence of both Spike AND Eve.

Light, I will agree I miss Lilah. She was fun. :) But we'll just have to see how this turns out. I doubt Spike will dominate but he might make a bigger impact than general can be understood... However I think there's a reason the Senior Partners brought him back and it's NOT to be buddy buddy with Angel. No I think something much more sinister is afoot. And besides Gunn's change too.

I don't think the senior partners brought him back. That was the pendant that Angel sent to Buffy in the last season, wasn't it? That means (to me anyway) that Spike's reappearance has nothing to do with Wolfram and Hart. I assume Spike died at the end of Buffy (I don't follow the show) but the pendant protected him somehow.

I thought it was an okay episode. Eve and Harmony could both take a hike. We have Fred and she's more than enough to satisfy me ;)

Was I the only one wishing that Angel would just rip out the guy's tongue so he wouldn't be able to utter the Word of Doom?

Yes but WHO gave the pendent to spike? Angel. And where did Angel get the pendent? The senior partners! So you see I think they are playing with angel on a scale he's not seeing. :)
