[SPOILERS] Cordy, Faith and Dawn questions

Okay, what's the whole deal with Dawn being the "key"? I missed that whole season, so I'm kind of curious....

And Faith may have been wild, but why did she end up being a villain? What's she doing in jail?

And when did Cordelia turn from the insufferable twit (BTVS) to someone worthy of Angel's love?

1) Dawn was manufactured by a group of monks using Buffy's blood (so they later said) to do it. Originally, she was this mystic key that would allow Glory, a goddess trapped on earth, to return home but destroying the world in the process. The act of hiding her as the key sort of did the Pinochio thing, and now she's a real human being, blood relative to Buffy.

2) Faith's wildness lead her into bad places. She accidently killed a human being, tried covering it up and blaming Buffy, then joined the Mayor after she offed Mr. Trick. She tried killing Angel with poison, killed a few harmless demons, went into a coma after Buffy tried (but couldn't) kill her, woke up and ran away, swapped bodies with Buffy, content to leave her rot in a Watcher jail while she pretended to be Buffy, and also ran amok over in LA, where after all of that, and some counselling from Angel she turned herself in to do her time. She's being reformed.

3) Cordy's evolution takes place entirely over in Angel land. After almost coming to terms with the fact that she was in love with spikey, half-demon Doyle, he died, gave her his gifts, and the weight of those, coupled with other fairly traumatic events, matured her in ways the Scooby Gang have yet to do.

Wow, you did miss a lot, much more than just one season. Did you quit watching and just pick it up again?

My scattergun approach to BTVS comes from watching the occassional new episode (when I wasn't doing night classes) along with the re-runs from previous seasons.

What I REALLY want to get up to date on is CSI (Crime Scene Investigators). No, wait, what I REALLY want to get up to date on is anything on NBC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (NBC, in a move to buy up KRON4 out of San Francisco, yanked the affiliation status to reduce the value of the station. Then, when KRON wouldn't sell, NBC gave affiliation status to channel 11, out of the south bay area. So those of us up in the north bay area who don't have cable haven't seen any new NBC shows in MONTHS.... No Law & Order, argh!!!!!)

Anyway, ranting is done. :)

I can't tell you much about NBC, but for the Buffy and Angel info, read old posts here. The stories read better than they played out on film. I did not like these last two seasons of Buffy, too dark and dull, I enjoyed the light-heartedness of the first few seasons. Angel is also losing its feel and it struggles for new angles for story lines.

Additional pieces of info:

Faith killed more than one human being - she also killed a professor of geology that the Mayor wanted dead. She is currently serving time in an LA prison for her crimes.

Cordelia began turning into a stronger person at the end of season 1. She was thrown into having visions 24-7 by Wolfram and Hart, until Angel had them some up with a solution to stop it. She saw in her condition many people in pain, in trouble, and needing help - it galvanized her to Angel's mission more than ever.

The recent storyline ("Saint Cordy's Acension") has revealed this to be a plot by the Powers that Be to find a worthy champion who is willing to be strong and take risks for the greater good. She has endured the visions for 3 years, she has risked death by keeping them, and we willing to be turned half-demon in order to keep them for the good of others. She was ascended (supposedly) right at the end of the last episode.

I myself thought the whole "Ascension" idea sucked and put a damper on the whole season's happenings. I desparately hope this was some plot by an enemy to hurt Angel and separate him so that his Son Conner could exact revenge on him. I honestly hope this isn't reveled to be by design of the PTB, or I will be sorely ticked off at the "callous face" that they have been increasingly given.

Good luck with catching up!

So, who's the ghost that helps Cordy? When I first saw the ghost, I thought she was about to be attacked. (Memories of Poltergheist and Ghostbusters....) It's like having a live-in maid. (Without the maid being living, of course.)

It's the ghost of a young man who was walled up by his own mother for falling in love with the wrong woman. The mother haunted the place until Angel released the ghost of her son, which then "killed" his mom's ghost and stayed behind and helps Cordy out. The young man's name was Dennis, so they call the ghost Phantom Dennis, an obvious play on Phantom Menace. This happened in one of the first season 1 episodes, when Doyle was the one with the visions and before Wesley joined.
