He's called B'Avi, not Bobby! :D

Yeah, the alien cadets are a lot like X-Men. We've got one who can transform into metal and walk outside the ship, one who's a hologram who can interface with tech, and one who is Professor X with a sonic scream.

heh, I thought Bobby was a strange name for a Vulcan, but he did look like a Bobby so I decided it suited him :)

good point about the X-Men parallel too, convenient for the writers when they have a bunch of Aliens (and programmable matter) who can do anything the plot requires.

Just finished catching up. Excellent so far! Interesting, well-rounded (more or less) characters, solid acting, and most important to me, amazing Trek Sense that you don't always see in every piece of the franchise. It doesn't hurt that the Doctor is my favorite Star Trek character.

I was particular moved by the DS9 tribute episode. Seriously had me emotional.

Anyone see the new episode yesterday? It was nice, but it didn't really move the needle forward IMO. There was some character development for three people and a bit of worldbuilding (which is always nice), but no plot movement or much going on with most of the cast. Nice to take a beat after a major event like last episode though.

I still get confused when they're on the ship or in San Francisco. I thought they were at the Academy in SF, until they went to the bridge and I realised they were on the ship. The ship just doesn't look like a ship inside!

They need to do establishing shots. I never have any idea where they are! They're always just in a shiny glowy room which could be on Earth or could be on a spaceship, and it's up to you to guess which!

I think the ship landed in the Academy and became basically a fancy Academy building. It is hard to tell which is which much of the time though.

Isn't the ship part of campus? I think that's the issue.

They sure like to yo yo is in terms of stakes. But I liked this episode mostly.

Darem doesn’t turn into metal, he shows his true Khionian form as a fishlike alien. Hence the “fishstick” nickname/insult in a later episode.

Though after episode 6, it would seem Darem isn’t just disguising himself, but that all Khionians have a very humanlike form they use outside of water (or vacuum) and a fishy form they use in those environments. Fortunately for the makeup budget, if unfortunately for the ecology, the moon where they hold royal weddings had all its oceans dry up, so everyone was in human mode.

Jay-Den and Professor Reno are the standout characters, for me. That speech they gave Jay-Den was perfect and well delivered, and Reno is just such a great constant foil for the cadets.
