I have not - it sounds like more my jam. I'll check it out tonight!
To me, SNW feels more like a spiritual successor to TOS than TNG did. I guess it had the benefit of having a soft launch in Disco, which I never saw, but it does hit the ground running in season 1 in a way that other successors didn't.

I grew up watching TOS at my Granpa's knee (literally) so I am looking forward to this, quite a lot!
I will advise, however, that you're going to see some canon holes. And I mean cannon ball sized canon holes. If you can just let that flow over you, you're in for a nice ride. Still a couple of seasons to go.

The Discovery episodes with Captain Pike are, IMO, some of the best Discovery episodes - and worth checking out.

Plus, while not necessary, they give some more context to the first episode of SNW and what the heck caused the issue they're dealing with

Yeah, so there's a lot of new and inconsistent canon right off the bat but that's okay so far; in my head I'm just compartmentalizing it as an alternate universe. I really liked the first episode; riffing off The Day the Earth Stood Still aims the plot squarely at those Golden Age roots, but the story is modernized by being emotionally grounded in Pike's trauma before coming to a suitably affirming climax that combines the two narrative threads. This felt like Trek to me. Thanks for the recommendation!

Haha...was watching the Jeremy Jahns review of Project Hail Mary (cannot WAIT!!!) and he gets this dig in while praising an element of the film that feels like classic Trek: "To be fair, it's hard to find a science fiction property that ISN'T influenced in some way by Star Trek...the one exception being, modern Star Trek."

This was shot near where I live and, sadly, I never got to see any of the cast while they were shooting. By comparison "Academy" is shot a similar distance from where I work and I've had no desire to swing by there ;) "Strange New Worlds" is my jam.

Bunk. Utter bunk.
