Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

Since that 'extras are expensive' handwave of an empty sickbay back in the first episode of the season, I keep noticing how deserted the Enterprise is. This week it was while they were walking down empty corridors talking. Plus I'm still not past the 210 crew thing, when I know it's 430!
I believe it was mentioned previously that the 210 is consistent with the figure given for Pike's Enterprise as of The Cage, and it does help to explain those empty corridors.

Well, let's hope they come up with an explanation of where those other 230 come from before Kirk takes over! And why the ship didn't need those extra 230 people before then.

In Kirk's era it's the five year mission, so they need to be able to operate for longer periods far from support, and have specialised staff to cover their wider mission profile (like they have a dedicated historian in Space Seed).

And yes, as @Ryujin says, plenty of replacement redshirts. :)

Sure, they might say that. We can but speculate. As long as they acknowledge it in some way.

Wasn't Pike's Enterprise on a 5-year mission too? Isn't that why he missed out on the Klingon War? He took over as Discovery's captain while the Enterprise was being overhauled after its return. Am I remembering correctly?

Ok, so, we have a species from another dimension (we've seen a few of those in the past, like Species 8472 and those creepy aliens from "Schisms", the solanogen-based lifeforms) that hijack living bodies and seem to have psychic powers.

Imprisoned in an pan-dimensional prison by an advanced civilization that apparently was destroyed and their descendants only have limited knowledge of them.

And apparently the Gorn are fully aware of our "Hitchhikers" and have devoted race memory in their DNA that tells them to "kill on sight"!

Also, that quantum entanglement on a molecular level is interesting as well, as I just recently learned about John Barrow's counterpoint to the Kardashev Scale, Microdimensional Strategy- at least a Type 3-Minus civilization (I've heard it proposed that the Q-Continuum are/were a Type Omega-Minus civilization- and we just had Trelane messing with Corby for rooting around on what could be the Q's ancestral home!).

-And speaking of Corby, we find out about his immortality obsession. Can we call this foreshadowing? Retroshadowing?

A lot of plot threads combining here, which is some seriously good plotting! At least I hope it is.

The only downside? New Guy (N'Jal)! We barely knew you!

Also, it's probably nothing, but the title reminded me of something. "Through the Lens of Time"-

"The Traveler had certain abilities, like the ability to act like "a lens which focuses thought", which allowed him to alter space, time, and warp fields with the power of his mind. He could phase out of time and dimension and move between planets and starships. These abilities were based on his ability to focus the energy of thoughts and in his advanced understanding of the nature of reality."

And just to add to all that, apparently this planet is the same one referred to by Trelane as "the old home world", so did this hyperdimensional immortality treatment result in the Q? Are these evil hitchhikers some form of proto-Q, or just something they unleashed along the way to their ascension?

EDIT: Missed that this was mentioned, still has interesting implications.

Not sure what I can add here, beyond the fact that we will likely see this "being" again due to the computer glitch seen right at the end of the episode.

I hate to think it, but perhaps this will tie in to the resolution of Captain Batel's arc. She and her Gorn half sacrifice themselves to end this being once and for all, or at least imprison it?

Leaves Pike grieving, but also perhaps pushes him forward to his own destiny?

Idle speculation, but I am 100% sure we have not seen the last of the energy lifeform.

Cheers :)
