Star Trek X: I've seen it!

Well, I can honestly say....it's different. I'm still digesting it and not quite sure how it measures up to the other films. I can definitely say that the crap you've heard about Shinzon being the next Khan is just that--crap. He talks the talk and walks the walk, but I'm just not feeling his evil-ness. I won't burden this thread with a spoiler except to say that the death of one of our beloved characters is not only a cop out, but not really dealt with well at the end. He/She is toasted. Oh geez, hand me a freakin kleenex please.

I would suggest seeing it for the special effects, some good ship combat, and a cool new bad guy race in the Remans.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS

I really thought the movie sucked hard. The plot was incomprehensible, B4 (Data's 'brother') was pointlessly stupid (and how they found was incredibly contrived), Worf and Geordi don't do much, and Shinzon, in fact, looks nothing like Patrick Stewart.

There's more, but I'm sure other people will cover it.

I'd give it 1 1/2 stars out of 4. There were some redeeming factors, but not enough to make it worth a second viewing ever again.

I loved it!!!!

Man, maybe I truly am a total fanboy but I have to say I loved this film. I can't understand why everyone is bashing it so hard.
Did it have flaws? Certainly. Were they any worse than any other Trek film. Nope.

A couple of things I really loved about this flick:

1.The ship combat was by far the most tense space battle since wrath of Khan. That combat raged along a 3 dimensional playing field. I loved it when they kept losing shields in certain sections of the ship and Picard was constantly trying to order maneuvering to protect lowly shielded areas. When the Romulans came and joined in the fray I was up on the edge of my seat.

2.TROI WAS USEFUL. How many times has troi ever been useful outside this movie? I thought her using her telepathic abilities to find the Scimitar was awesome. Normally I don't think much of Marina Sirtis as an actress but I think she did an excellent job looking distraught and haggard after being mind-raped.

All in all I have to say this film is better than most people are giving it credit for. I truly have to wonder if people aren;t just taking up a mantle of negativity towards. It seems that Trek bashing has come back into style for some reason.

Or it might be as I said: I'm just to much of Trek fanboy to rant on this film.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp I just came back from watching Star Trek: Nemesis... WOOHOO!!! :D

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp And when I came home and switched on the TV, what did I see? Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home playing on UPN.

Gonna have to cast my vote with the "plus" side on this one. It's not the best movie ever by any means, or even close to the best Star Trek movie ever, but it was certainly fun. Yes it had flaws, yes things could have been done better, but I'm not sorry I paid to see it, and I'd definitely say it's one of the best--if not the best--of the Next Generation movies to date.

Three of my friends and I just finished seeing it. Only one of my friends disliked it and the rest of us were positive. My friend who disliked the movie said this, "I don't know....I just wasn't wowed by it."

I think that is truly appropriate. I wasn't 'wowed' by it either. But unlike my friend, I can still walk away satisfied from a movie even though it didn't wow me. It was fair. I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10. Its just too bad that my friend can only be satisfied with movies that are perfect 10's.

My ranking for Next Generation movies from best to worst:

1.) First Contact
2.) Nemesis
3.) Generations
4.) Insurrection

My ranking for all Trek films (including Next Gen) Best to Worst:

1.) Wrath of Khan
2.) Undiscovered Country
3.) Search for Spock
4.) First Contact
5.) The Motion Picture
6.) Nemesis
7.) Voyage Home
8.) Generations
9.) Insurrection
10.) Final Frontier

Yes, there were tons of things that were logically wrong with this movie. Actually, all Trek films had some holes in the logic department. Its just the best Trek films had very very small ones and only one or two.

Every other Trek film had its share too. So does 'Nemesis'. Here they are. IMO

1.) I may have missed it, but did they reveal a point to why Troi was mentally violated?

2.) As big as the Scimitar was, I assumed it could carry a rather huge crew. Yet, their boarding part to the Enterprise numbered to be about to 8-10 maybe.

3.) Why is the radiation build up chamber next to the bridge?

4.) Why do exterior personel hatches on the Scimitar have no security codes for access? ( I guess we could maybe explain it and say that no one puts them in because the shields are normally up. But still....how much extra money would it have cost to put that feature on all the exterior hatches?)

5.) Why did the engineer of the Scimitar build spikey stuff in the radiation build up chamber? Ok....we know the real reason why. But a fanboy defense would be to say: Because maybe the required components, that are integral to the device, require the shapes to be pointy. For whatever reasons behind its physics. Conductivity, directional focus....etc, etc. Whatever, we know its so bad guys can get impaled on them.:D

6.) How'd did Picard know he had enough strength to bend the spikey metal thing off the wall in time to impale his foe? Man, would'nt it suck if Picard went to go do that move and then it didn't budge? Boy, talk about embarrassment.

7.) Obviously, in the future, soldiers are no longer trained on how to proceed through close quarter combat areas. Through out this movie, all firefights begin with people casually strolling along, then accidently bumping into each other, THEN getting into combat readiness. The most powerful boarding party in the Trek universe would be a squad of SWAT policemen transported from the past. Teleport them onto any ship and they would destroy all aboard.

Okay, enough of me bagging on all the silly holes of logic in Nemesis. Let me point out the cool stuff too.

1.) I thought Shinzon was a cool concept for a bad guy. The actor who portrayed him did a great job. And yes, he didn't look exactly like Picard. But heck, its close enough.

2.) The Romulan bird of preys where SWEET as heck. I'm glad to see a new design for the Romulans. And unlike the Scimitar design (which I thought was just so-so)...the new bird of preys looked sweet. Also they still kept within the established design sense that is recognized as being 'Romulan' style ships.

3.) Dina Meyer as Commander Donatra is cool. Ain't nothing wrong with a sharp looking Romulan lady. :)

Hmmm......Dina Meyer plays a Commander helming a Romulan bird of prey. It gets shot down and put out of the fight. Dina Meyer plays Oracle on WB's "Birds of Prey" which is shot down by viewers and gets canceled. Hmmm.

4.) The ship battle was cool. Although I saw a few lost opportunities to do really really cool stuff, it was still cool nevertheless.

Then there are things I would've just liked to have seen but I'm perfectly okay without seeing them.

-Wished I could've seen a cameo of the 'Titan' at the end. In Undiscovered Country its cool how you see the Enterprise and the Excelsior part ways before the credit sequence. Maybe something similar like that would've been cool.

-Heard a rumor that Ashley Judd was willing to do a small cameo as Wesley's wife. That would've been cool. Too bad it was cut. Or the idea was dropped.

-Wished they would've thought of a way to incorporate the rest of the fleet battle group that the Enterprise was trying to meet up with.

How cool would that have been if, at a moment where the Enterprise and the two other bird of preys are on the ropes, in comes all those Federation ships to the rescue. They suspected something was amiss and took the initiative to go meet the Enterprise. However they found the battle site...they do arrive and start in on the Scimitar. Because I've always wanted to see a big high budget movie battle with lots of Federation Ships. The one at the beginning of First Contact was sweet. But too short! I want to see more.

Too unbalanced a fight you say? But the Scimitar powers up its radiation main cannon thingy and starts killing crew after crew of all these ships. The audience would be like, "Oh my g........."

Then, the Enterprise can use the last of its powers to ram the Scimitar. My friend and I were also saying how cool it would've been if.....after ramming the Scimitar, the Enterprise, with what little energy it has left, fires it phasers at point blank range right into the Scimitar's hull. Didn't they say they had enough energy left to fire about four or five phaser banks or something? Don't remember. Surely full impulse didn't take all that energy. Well, you could always tweak the script to write it so it does have enough energy to do both. Heh heh. :D

Anyways.....should of ......could of.........whatever. I don't mind.

Still enjoyed the movie. Not great cinema. But good fair fun. I'll pick it up on DVD. Where as with 'Insurrection' and 'Final Frontier', I still will not buy.

DON'T LET ACTORS WRITE SCRIPTS!

I am a big Fanboy and hated this contrived piece of steaming dung. Not the worst of the 10 movies (that dubious distinction still goes to Star Trek IV: Save The Whales), this one easily crosses the finish line next to last. Here I thought they couldn't make a bad Next Gen movie. Boy was I ever wrong, disappointed, and angry.

Angry Fanboy Questions
When did Data's emotion chip that got fused into his head and couldn't be removed in Generations fall out? Geordi asked Data how he felt about b4 carrying around all his memories, Data replied "I feel nothing."

Why was the Ambassador to Q'uonos (Worf last episode of DS9) slumming around with the command crew of the flagship; doesn't Ambassador to the Federation's largest ally outrank the flag captain? No explanation provided at all. At least in First Contact and Insurrection they spared 5 seconds of on-screen time to explain Worf's situation.

The button-sized emergency transporter? Did they get it confused with the emergency transponder which needed the working transporters to work or did they really miniaturize something the size of two or three rooms down to a button? If the Enterprise and Scimitar shields were both down, why didn't they use a use a transporter on one of Enterprise's shuttles to do the deed at the end of the movie?

What about Guinan, no one was toasting her ass, 10 Forward was not in ship shape at the end of the movie?

And for the record, Captain Riker, IT WAS "POP GOES THE WEASEL!"

So many contrived plot elements and so much ignored precedent, all for an actor's self-aggrandizing swan song. Give me an effing break. Send this one to Mystery Science Theater 3000, so I can yell at the screen, the only impulse this movie drove me to do besides kicking puppies.

There were a few problems with the movie. Of course, several have been pointed out, but here's just a few more...

1) Wesley had resigned. He was wearing a Starfleet uniform during Picard's toast. Big no-no. Not only that, where the heck did he come from? Wesley had walked off with the Traveler earlier... so how did he learn about the wedding?

2) Eye-droppers and microscopes? Come on, nobody on TNG used those for medical procedures. They should have used the tricorder and transmited the info to a wall unit. They've looked at DNA that way before.

3) "We're dead in the water," says the Romulan. How the hell does a Romulan learn a human phrase? There are language barriers there. And even if the Romulans had developed a similar saying, I could almost guarantee it wouldn't be exact.

4) To hell with the Prime Directive. We're going to land on a planet with pre-industrial humanoids, ride around on a dunebuggy from a ship, and pick up pieces of something that are emitting positronic signals. Now, this isn't like the one episode where Data had been sent to pick up pieces of a crashed satellite that was emitting radiation on a similar planet... these things weren't dangerous. The least Picard could have done was to get Starfleet approval to go take a look.

I quite liked it. I think that some judicious editing could make it much better though - particularly the grade school dialogue from B4 early on in the film: "Why does the man have a fuzzy face?" Did he really say that? My god...
Great battle scene.

In all though its still had a long episode feel that all of the next gen movies have had. I don't know what it was about the original trek movies that made them so much more real...

SPOILERS (but if you're this far down the thread you've already hit far more than I'll be telling you here).

Have to agree on the editing idea. There was a lot of pre-movie buzz about the cameos at the wedding from the Next Gen series - all of which seems to have wound up on the editing room floor. I think that five more minutes from the wedding, and five fewer minutes of the bad guys, would have made for a more balanced film (and increased the repeat viewings by the TNG fan base).
Oh well, let's look forward to seeing the missing stuff as part of the DVD extras next year.

Overall, it wasn't bad. I'd rate it a 7 out of 10, but nowhere as good as Kahn, Voyage Home, or First Contact.
