Sunless Citadel 3.5e Campaign Recruiting!

My guess is that Ydyr could be there in Mistledale trying to get his bearings and find directions to the next temple of Illmater where he can continue his studies. As the quiet, almost bashful sort, drinking a draught and listening to two old friends would certainly be a fine way (in his mind) to pass the night. He would be shy and loathe to tell his own story, but would try and be a good listener for those who are tale-tellers.

Could be a plan on that, but the kicker would be to keep Ydyr moving away from the temple and willing to accept a job as an escort, which in turn would then deposit him in Oakhurst. Perhaps the merchant could have appealed to your compassionate side and convinced you that while the road from Oakhurst to Shadowdale was not the fastest route, it would still get you there.

Along the way, both Heirmund and myself could tell you what we knew of the clergy there, as well as Dengar's relationship with the faith, so you could learn more about those you sought to apprentice further with.

I'm in... my character isn't much a personality force. A group of nice people and the chance to see some more of this "great big world" would take him where ever.

This is sounding pretty good Two-Gun, and this is D&D.. it's supposed to be corny. :p
It sounds good to me somehow.

jayaint: Two old friends?, how are we old friends?.

I meant Ydyr would sit and listen to two old friends (Heirmund and Dengar) catch up about their past.

Not so much.

The point I was making was that if H & D were in a bar, conversing, and telling stories... and Y was sitting next to them at the bar or sharing a large table or something, he would naturally become inquisitive and would love to sit and listen to them catch up. Maybe even be included in their group, or something. :)

***EDIT***However, after going back for a thread-re-read... I see that I am DM-placed in Oakhurst... not Mistledale... *slaps forehead*

Well... I would say that Y has never met anyone from the party before, but that wouldn't stop him from joining them; either on the road to Oakhurst, or in a tavern, inn, etc once there. He is feeling a little lost, a llittle overwhelmed and small right now... so a group of casters (plus stone looking warrior) who say they would like him to join them would be quite a comfort.

So Heirmund has a raven, Is Lehko not going to take a familiar?

Two things. One, I never understood how a 1st level character can afford the ceremony for a familiar and anything else, unless I've been missing something blatently obvious. Second, Indy's Sorceror variant can be found below.

Edit: Question. Are the alternates just for if we lose a player, or is it for characters as well? This is probably a standard thing, but I'm not sure, as I'm fairly inexperienced in PbP etiquette.

Okay, time's up. Sorry Scotley, but I'll keep you and Ferrix on the list in order, in case anything else goes wrong.

JimAde, welcome to the group! Get me that char, okay?

I like what I'm seeing here, with the histories gelling and everything. Keep up the good work guys.

Sorrow, I still need writeups of those two spells.

I take a bit of a houserule: I let a starting wizard have the familiar essentially 'for free'. Seems a very common houserule. So no worries there.

And the alternates are primarily for if we lose a player. These games go slowly enough that if someone wanted to swap out a char we'd have plenty of time to complete the process before an opportunity arose to get the new char in.

Of course, we're not starting tomorrow morning like I'd hoped. I'm not sure when we will--but I'll give you at least a day's notice before we do. The rest of you need to spend the wait time finalizing any details that haven't been finished yet (*eyes Voadam...*: )

Let me know!

My character (Jerek Tolman) is done, but sitting on my computer at work. I'll post it tomorrow.

Just a quick version of the background: conscripted into a corrupt, pillaging military, ended up killing his company captain and deserting. Now on the run FAR from home and planning to stay that way.

Thanks!

Description
Jerek is of medium height, with a thin, wiry build and a sardonic smile playing around his lips. He dresses in muted colors for the most part but wears a red cloth around his brow to keep his long black hair back.

Bio
Jerek was born to a farming family in a hamlet in the distant kingdom of Toulon. From an early age he had a habit of blundering into difficulties and wriggling his way out of them. As he matured he displayed a real talent for the bow and supplemented his family's farming with hunting in the nearby forests.

One day in his seventeenth year, he was suddenly set upon by what he took to be brigands. He defended himself as best he could but was soon pummelled into submission. Only then did he realize he had joined the army. He quickly found himself in the service of Baron Etienne Valmont, whose arbitrary cruelty was matched only by his military brilliance. Jerek's innate talents were quickly recognized and he was trained to perform infiltration and reconnaisance. Though their campaign against the neighboring kingdom of Osserik was a success, Jerek was apalled by the army's conduct. During an action in the Osserian town of Dovewood, the company captain allowed his men free reign on the local civilians. The captain personally despoiled the temple and seemed intent on doing the same to the priestess. Jerek had enough. He killed the captain and fled, though he was slightly wounded in the process. Noone seemed to know what he had done, but Jerek knew that he couldn't go home, since the Baron's troops would be sure to capture and execute him as a deserter. And if they found out he had killed the Captain, they would punish his family as well. The only hope for his family was to disappear and be counted as lost in action.

He wandered far to the north as quickly as he could, living off the land and turning the tables on the occasional thief. Eventually he signed on as a caravan guard. There he met an odd group of similar wanderers and feels for the first time in a long time that he might have genuine friends again.
