Why does it work that way... I mean by starting at 20 you only need 7 down votes and even 2 up votes wont save it? If the first 10 people don't like one thing, then even if 100 people who see it next do there is no coming back? this entire thing is kind of odd...
Oh, I've no idea. Apparently it's a D&D internet forums thing. All the other ones were set up that way. I suppose we could ask @lowkey13 (who posted the first two or three of the past week or so).
I mean, the object IS to weed things out...so, yeah, if a bunch of people all gang up on one of the options, it will go away pretty quickly. But...that's the point. To see what makes it the farthest...a.k.a. "wins." We can presume this means it holds the most popular support...but we really can't determine anything else by these things. They've been described (repeatedly) as nothing more than strictly lighthearted popularity contests.
There's no real "mathematics" justifications here. So, yeah, a "down vote" goes farther than an "up vote" because you're trying to whittle things down/out.
