Tabletop creators leave X for Bluesky in droves

I think it's good to give people choices.

I don't use Twitter because -before Musk- I didn't like the culture there.

If Blue Sky is a community of ex-Twitter users, I don't imagine that I would enjoy the culture there either.

Currently it's more of a community of people who would get abuse on Twitter, but that may well change.

Problem with Twitter was right there at the start. 180 characters (or whatever) doesn't leave any room for much nuance. Echo chambers and handing megaphone to idiots was easily foreseeable.

In people's day to day life it doesn't really matter. It's only as relevant as society let's it.

Speaking only for myself; I never felt "abused" during the very brief time I had a Twitter account. I simply didn't enjoy the community and the general vibe. A lot of conversations seemed to be a conflict between competing enclaves of echo chambers.

It also makes me roll my eyes when contemporary news will have a headline saying something like "...fans outraged...," and the actual story is that people on Twitter were upset.

For people who feel (for whatever reason) that they prefer Blue Sky over Twitter, I think it is good that Blue Sky is available to them.

One person's "echo chamber" is another's, "You were kind of a jerk about it, so I stopped listening to you."

There are loads of way to get information about opposing views without allowing the people who have those views to personally berate you about them.

More the format. Friends lists plus ignore plus 180 cgaracyer limit I can't see any problem with that what so ever.

You can compare with say youtube. Most videos are shorter but there's long form stuff there. I probably won't watch a 3 hour video on whatever (well maybe on Sumeria) but it's there.

Not good for people's anxiety levels imho. Concept is flawed the problem is it exists

Sure

At the same time, watching multiple people continue to say the same pre-programmed talking points (even in the face of objectively factual information and proveable logic) is, I believe, what is meant by "echo chamber."

For the people who like Xwitter, they have it.
For the people who like Blue Sky, they have it.

I believe that the division may exacerbate echoes, but that's a different conversation.
From the perspective of supporting a society that allows individuals to make choices for self, I think that having a marketplace which helps to offer choice is good.

Because... people should not have choice as to what they are exposed to?

plus 180 cgaracyer limit

Not that it negates your point at all, but for sake of accuracy, the limit on Bluesky is 300 characters.

I can't see any problem with that what so ever.

It seems really weird to claim the issue is with the medium, and completely ignoring how people choose to treat each other.

Do not blame on technology that which is sufficiently explained by humans being jerks.

Was 180 300 is still sod all. Lends itself to simple catch phrases.

People are jerls but the format encourages it and amplifies it. It's like booze really.

You can't boil down complex socio economic problems that will take decades to have an effect down to 180 (or 300) characters.

You can do catch phrases and prey on people desires and let them fill in the gaps. Thumbs up thumbs down swipe left what's a book?

With respect,

1) Rejection of other viewpoints happens whether or not you are in an echo chamber. It happens here between people of opposing viewpoints all the time. This generally arises, not from being in an echo chamber, but from having an emotional stake in being the one who is correct.

2) The accusation of being in an echo chamber generally comes in the form of, "All you people are in an echo chamber, for not listening to what I say." Meanwhile the body of what the accuser said is found to be at least rude, if not abusive.

If you act like a jerk, you cannot successfully play the "you are in an echo chamber" card.
